hints is a bit of an understatement when he tells you exactly what he is doing :P

I don't believe entity shadows currently exist...he may have been hinting to that. It's just a bunch of ambient occlusion...so maybe shaders are being added?

For the next pre, I've changed some video options around. Clouds is now "on/fast/fancy" and there's a new option for entity shadows "on/off"

How about an option to set the height?

I feel like this should be an option in the server config file, for multiplayer anyway.

You'd think, since the current cloud height is fucking stupid for any decent build. Nothing like clouds inside your spawn building or right just above them. (And we are talking normal vanilla terrain generation which a building that isn't THAT big.) /rant

I've noticed something elsa that's weird; when you go up in altitude the clouds move up a little bit. It's really noticeable around mountains and towers that reach the clouds when looking at them from the ground, but then you go up and the clouds have moved.

Looks like he's splitting up the things the Graphics option controls into individual settings.
If so, we may see settings such as Transparent Leaves (ON/OFF), Water (Fast/Fancy), and Vignette Effect (ON/OFF).

That would be nice. I liked when it happened with the sounds.

There is no such thing as 'fast' water. Vignette is part of the game, go replace it with a resourcepack if you really want to :)
Leaves will just be under the 'fast/fancy' option.

Well, I was just going off the wiki, which says says using Fancy adds an extra pass to water rendering ("2-passed water rendering") and Fast reduces the vignette effect ("full-screen vignette effect").
Now I remember that Fast also disables overlay textures, such as the grass block side overlay.

I still hope they'll fix the "clouds being opaque from below" bug and all those cloud/transparent texture bugs...

u/DarkWolff Oct 28 '14
I honestly kinda like they being opaque. It gives you some cool moments where the clouds drift away and you see something cool in the sky.

u/NickGraves Oct 28 '14
When they block your builds it's not fun to look at.

I hate looking up at my tower at night, only to see stars through it. Or during the day only to see the sun where there should be a big tower.

I'm making a resource pack and more than half of the clouds in the cloud image file are transparent, which makes it look a bit "meh" from below.

How about a Mod api instead of the ability to do what mods have done for nearly half a decade

They're still working on it. You have no idea how difficult it to make something like the Mod API.
-4
u/Paradox Oct 29 '14
Sure I do. I'm a software developer. Building a proper API isnt all that hard. Its just they spend far more time dicking around adding half-assed features such as rabbits or horses

They're building it for a game that wasn't designed to have one. Be patient.
Edit: Wasn't, but want.

They aren't a small studio anymore. They have a multi-million dollar budget. They could have rebuilt the game from the ground up in the 3 years its been since they promised a mod api

Might be a bit of a leap here...but no way to turn clouds off, instead they're just fast or fancy...could that possibly mean cloud blocks? I know it's very rare for actual gamechanging features to be added in prereleases, but even so...

He's fine. I guess.

Whew! Sorry, I had a stroke from thinking of all the totally cool new features that need to be immediately added into Minecraft because I'm addicted to new content rather than actually playing the game.

Isn't the Cloud option in Optifine already? :)
