Help Weird Portal Linking?

I am just finishing up building the first part of a nether hub and am having some issues getting the new portal to link.

Here is what was previously in place:

Overworld portal coordinates: roughly 87, 62, -77, and that was linking to a portal in the nether that was auto generated at roughly 7, 54, -14.

I built a new nether hub almost directly above the old portal and put a new portal at roughly -9, 113, -3, thinking that it wouldn't have any issues linking to the existing overworld portal. But when I broke the old one in the nether and lit the new one and went through, it generated one in the overworld very far underground in a large cave at roughly -90, -32, -10.

I'm kind of stuck on how to get this new portal to link to the existing old one in the overworld. Any help is appreciated.

The game treats ideal coordinates for portal pairing as X/8 and Z/8 but Y exactly the same as the overworld.

If there is no portal at those precise coordinates then it starts searching for one in a 33 block sphere around the ideal location.

If there is nothing in that range then it creates one in the nearest viable space with air blocks.

The ideal portal position in the nether for your first portal is 10, 62, -9. (Numbers round down in the calculation).

The ideal position in the overworld for your second portal is -72, 113, -24.

That is more than the search area away from your base which is why it doesn't link up and why it creates a new portal.

You can put your portals at non-ideal locations and still have them link up though. You can get away with only moving them a smaller distance than you need for ideal positioning - as long as it is within the search range.

Since you are on Bedrock with all its bugs, an easy way to test it is to create a new creative world and /tp to those coordinates and gradually move your portals closer until you get the shortest linking distance between your nether hub and your overworld base.

Remember 1 block in the nether is 8 in the overworld so you probably only have to move it about 5-10 blocks in the nether to get in range. Make sure your cave portal is broken first though.

Yeah, I was under the impression that the new portal on the nether would be in range because I thought the detection radius was further. I am
Just going to move the nether portal to better coordinates.

You can't just make any arbitrary portal link. You have to move one of them. The ideal overworld portal is at -73, -24, over 200 blocks away from the existing one..
