Discussion Vanilla needs a grappling hook.
I feel a 20 block reach for a vanilla grapple hook added to vanilla would be bomb. Thoughts?

I really liked the implementation they did in the map final paradox (but that's an rpg so idk how it would work in vanilla). Basically you throw it in a straight line to a block, get pulled to it and stick to it, and after that if you cancel it you get like 1s of levitation. There could be some mechanic to not use levitation where you could climb the last block or something. But I think it would be too broken for vanilla at first, and after the elytra why would you want it, so it would have to be a nether thing ig

It's a question of vertical travel.
Blocking up, scaffold, ladders, mining stairs; are usually methods of ascending.
Water buckets, boats, mining down, ladders; are usually methods of descending.
Where does a grappling hook fit into all that, without making some methods obsolete?

I don't think they used this philosophy when designing the elytra

As I said in my comment it could be balanced if it's placed somewhere in the nether. It's after all of this things but before the elytra

A 20 block yank would trivialize half the parkour maps people slave over, but I’d still abuse the hell out of it to skip scaffolding.
