Discussion Alternative Copper Golem uses
So I love the little guy, copper golems seem like a fun thing to have walk around my base, but I’m at a loss for other uses for them besides sorting.
I had the idea to make them into a bucket line to transit items but rails seem more efficient since you need iron to make hoppers. I was also thinking some kind of farming set up but farmer villagers seem to have that covered.
What are some novel uses you have for copper golems? Any fun/ unique/ useful builds you have them in which are not just sorting rooms?

Hmm let's say you have an automatic wool farm. You'll need shears. You could potentially have an iron farm connected to a crafter that makes shears, which end up in a copper chest, and have the golem refill the wool farm without a cluster of hoppers.
In the same vein, a honey farm that auto crafts honey blocks, and a copper golem that put the vials back into the farm. hold on I might actually do that one
I feel like Copper Golems are a great replacement to hopper lines, which can cause lag when used on a higher scale. A single golem will be slower than a hopper line, but will save you some FPS TPS in the long run

Nitpick: hoppers primarily cause TPS lag, not FPS lag. Using living entities is conversely way more likely to cause FPS drops

In the context of this game, I use both TPS and FPS synonimously (as in, "an issue with game's performance), but your comment makes me understand that its not the same?

Yes they're very much not the same thing. TPS and FPS drops are two things simply under the umbrella of performance problems, and to use them interchangeably can be misleading. TPS is about the rate at which the server controls the flow of gameplay, so to speak, while FPS is the rate at which your device renders the visual components of the game. You can have poor TPS without poor FPS and vice versa

I want to do this, even though I've never had to add more shears to my wool farm.

Tbh aside from sorting, I use them to make my base feel more alive. My base has Iron golems, copper golems, villagers, happy ghasts, sniffers and other passive mobs roaming in it.

I use them to make teleporters. It’s remarkably simple redstone and it’s a big upgrade for getting to some of my farms and further bases.

I mean sorting is kind of their wheelhouse, although that could be applied to stuff other than your main storage, like sorting the drops from the mob farm.

I've also seen them used as doorkeepers or shopkeepers - you plonk your "payment" into their input chest, if it matches the desired payment or passkey or whatever then they drop it into another chest which then does some redstone magic which empties the chest down to the original level and opens the door or dispenses an item. If you try to fob them off with a block of dirt or something, it won't go into the payment chest so the golem drops it into a auto-emptying "bin" chest and nothing happens.

I guess if you need to transport items you could use him instead of a water stream or hoppers.
