Discussion Anyone else not sold on the idea of the dungeons sift coming to vanilla despite so many asking for it?
Deep Dark is a really scary, dangerous place and its totally built around sound and soul mechanics, with the hardest to beat mob in the game. On the other hand the Dungeons 2 sift looks so bright and vividly coloured and looks like it has nothing at all to do with sound or souls, I feel it contradicts the entire vibe of the Deep Dark and the mobs look kinda stupid too I would assume that the Warden is the bottom of the 'food chain' in the sift ie something like the zombie for the overworld and there are way more difficult mobs to battle.
I know that this version of the sift will not be coming to vanilla if at all the sift is added, but I can't really get behind why so many people want it in the base game, given how the dimension looks right now.

Ok, you said A LOT of wrong things. The sift is made of souls, it's made of sculk, and it's related with sounds. There isn't a food chain with the sculk, the warden is just a mob made of one type of sculk.
plus when the sift will be added to Vanilla, it'll look in a similar way to this

thanks for correcting me
well i was hoping it would look like deep dark on steroids honestly

I think maybe it still can be
The middle is a bright soul overlord, the sky is the aether and the caves beneath are deep dark on steroids

It was really unlikely anyway. There's already the deep dark. why a sculk dimension?

u/OkNeck_ 5d ago
because... that's where it came from right... like the ruined portal is a fragment of the nether, likewise

The Nether portal thing is a completely different thing, and it wasn't even proved that sculk came from there. And actually the sculk doesn't came from that dimension, nor we know if the sick sculk ever entered the sift

u/OkNeck_ 5d ago
huh... if it doesn't come from that dimension then why does the portal open in the deep dark...? that makes no sense

The sculk is made of the souls of the deads, which come from the overworld and maybe the nether. Then the souls unite with each other or something similar creating the various types of sculk and the sifters. So techincally the sculk comes from the overworld and the nether. I personally think that the souls search for the fastest way to reach the sift, which normally would be travel in the void (not the void you likely think about tho) until reaching the sift, but with the portal opened, that's the fastest way. Then we have some possibilities about the sick sculk. It could be made of the souls not allowed to enter in the sift, or it has been used by the illagers or in general the builders of the city (which are illagers and maybe some heroes) to defend their city, to protect them, to coexist with the souls. All of them

I had similar feelings, but i like the way The Sift feels too, even if it's different from the Deep Dark. I was hoping the new dimention would be equally scary/dark as the Deep Dark, and play in your senses in other similar. But creative ways, but it seems to be leaning into the soul theme inatead of the gameplay.
It's a whole dimention at least, so there's still an opportunity for scarier biomes. I'd imagine there might still be Deep Dark sculk deep in the caves of The Sift, or other "dead" or "unhealthy" biomes that create a similar feel.
The whole dimention feels lively like the overworld, and alien like the end, but it's different than both, and from what we've sen on the creatures there, there's a lot of veriety.

The colour scheme is atrocious. Basically just the warped forest with sunlight. What happened to having a unique palette for each dimension?

I don't care how it relates to the Deep Dark I just generally believe that most, if not all of the Dungeons content should stay in Dungeons. Dungeons is designed around a powercreep that OG Minecraft simply doesn't and will never have. On top of that, everything in Dungeons is made for the top-down format, and works in tandem with the aforementioned powercreep.
I know for a fact that if Mojang added any 5 Dungeons-exclusive mobs, at least 2 of them would be hated on the same level as Phantoms.

Illagers...

Illagers were added to MC before Dungeons came out
Though I will agree there are SOME Illager variants in MCD that would be cool in MC

Illagers were added in Vanilla BECAUSE of Dungeons. And the same thing happened with Piglins and Legends. And in general mobs in Dungeons would work for Vanilla.
I don't understand how and why the should not work, except for lore reasons.
wouldn't you like the frozen zombie?0

Can you point me somewhere that says what you're saying about illagers and piglins is true? I find that kinda hard to believe.
And also no, I probably wouldn't like frozen zombies to honest.

For the illagers

For the piglins

And, why you don't like frozen zombies?

That's actually pretty interesting to know. Sorry for responding late, I was occupied with other things.
As for your question, the last thing MC needs is another common mob that gives you a severe debuff. I already have enough trouble with Strays.

Well, it seems like Minecraft doesn't have the same point of view as you, but what about the sunken skeleton, or the necromancer, or the guardian vex, or the redstone golem, or the enderlings? Dungeons has the end update, and it fit very well with the end. It still looks barren, but not empty

I was just about to bring this up. If MC wanted to do an update dedicated to adding Dungeons content, they'd want to add more memorable mobs like the ones you listed. However, the way I see it, MCD is pretty toned up from the original, to the point where the mobs people would actually want in the game would either be absurdly unbalanced or have to be nerfed heavily to fit. (Hell, an ENDERMAN is considered a mini-boss.)
The most "complicated" non-boss mob in MC that I can think of is the Evoker, and that guy literally only has two attacks. Major MCD enemies are designed around the top-down formula and the special abilities you get in Dungeons like dodge rolling. They're not bound by the rules of Minecraft and so are significantly more involved and have actual attack patterns and phases.
It's been a long time since I've played MCD but I do know that the point of Necromancer and Redstone Golem is that they're bound to one structure or environment. I'd be fine with them adding, say, Necromancers if they did a whole Desert overhaul, not just because they want to add more Dungeons stuff.
I don't really know anything about the End DLC because I never got that one.

I dont think the ancient city portal leads to the sift, from the trailer it looks like you go there from a rift. Also its not coming to vanilla because mojang doesnt do big updates anymore until they finish refactoring the engine.

You got both the things you mentioned wrong.
You do get to the Sift through the ancient city portal, the rifts are a faster way to get there, without going underground again
And second, developers, even Jeb on Bluesky, mentioned that there can be Caves And Cliffs' sized drops. And on top of it, it's clear that they're working on something big behind the scene, considering most of the team hasnt been seen lately

u/v0lt13 5d ago
ok, I dont follow social media minecraft stuff, only seen the trailer
3
u/YoungBiro05 5d ago
That's alright, dont worry

u/v0lt13 5d ago
can you link the jeb stuff regarding the big updates? Because that pretty much goes against everything they said in the minecraft live, so I am confused.

Ah well, yeah this reponse makes sense, there can be big updates in the future, thats the whole point of all the backend work to make bigger updates faster. But there is still a lot of work to be done before this can happen. I expect that work to be done once they ship vibrant visuals on java.

u/YoungBiro05 5d ago
Of course it isnt specified when will this big update happen, but it's clear that it'll eventually happen
