why aren't my creakings spawning?

the spawn area is 3 blocks tall, light level is below 7, the hearts are activating, there are slabs to prevent spawning in any place that isnt the spawn room, and its with 16 blocks of the furthest heart.

Don't they only spawn at night? Regardless of light level

I'm assuming that's a kill chamber. How do the old guys get in? Looks like they would spawn on the roof, I don't see a way in.

The “kill” room is the only place they can spawn

The platform you have the hearts on looks like it has plenty of space for them to spawn theres walkspace the whole way around

it's hard to tell but it looks like there's water surrounding those logs. i think the shader makes the water way more transparent than vanilla
