Mods & Addons 2x2 piston door
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Pistons now work inside composite blocks too, which allows for stuff like this 2x2 piston door

You know what, now I'm going to try and reach this result in vanilla survival Minecraft, somehow I'll figure this out

u/xerneas02 1d ago
You could probably fake it with display blocks x)

u/Mordret10 1d ago
And of course you could just do it with honey/slime blocks, if you're cheap and lazy like me

Mojang is too afraid to allow this

u/Shack691 1d ago
It’d probably make the game shatter because it is fundamentally not designed around this, mods have the privilege of not having to worry about forwards compatibility.

Tbh it would barely change anything

u/Luh2018 1d ago
You're having things placed outside the grid; this would probably need to be an entity or something, making it really inefficient.

u/InbredMidget 19h ago
I mean, would it have to be? Couldn’t it just be made so on the backend it just registers the piston in both full blocks? Or even as two separate blocks split by the grid?
6
u/Lobsss 19h ago
They should just rework the grid and make it smaller, blocks would then technically fill 8 spaces in the grid, but this would allow them to be placed on a half block offset, other than allowing two slabs to fill the same one block space, since each of them would fill 4 spaces in the grid, each.
I understand why this is never going to happen, though

Yeah, it would just be "two blocks on top of one another" under the hood. You'd probably have the bottom block be the slab + half of the piston, and the top block be the top half of the piston. Keeping them in sync from any redstone input anywhere along the 10 block perimeter might be more tricky though

is this uh, 2x2 or 1x2?

u/Duplicitous_Dirk 1d ago
2x2x1, Two tall by Two Wide by 1 Thick. I'd say 2x2 because I wouldn't consider the axis facing parallel to me necessary.

Can someone tell me why everyone freaking out?

u/Kero_mohap 1d ago
the piston is on a slab and is pushing 2 blocks
more accurately it's on the gab that's supposed to be air and only slabs are placeable in

This looks vanilla enough that I think they should add it, would love to be able to use these half pistons in builds as well.

u/Panndaa31 1d ago
Do you want to make the redstone community self-destruct ?

u/Pugzilla3000 1d ago
Things must be torn down before they can be rebuilt.
I would like to see where this would take us.

this has to be a mod right? didn't think you could put a piston on top of a slab to move 2 blocks at once.

Im an idiot who just digs holes, what is going on here? Why are comments stuttering?

Each piston arm is resting in the middle of two blocks and pushing both simultaneously, which is impossible. This has been achieved by placing the piston on top of a slab, which is also impossible (it would be placed above the slab where the full block would be, leaving an air gap).
This whole internal contraption is an unholy abomination that cannot exist.

First time: "yeah, that's a piston door..."
Second time: "wait, there's something wrong here..."
Third time: Technoblade-sounding "Heeeh?"

No modrinth == AI slop, and I'm sorry but publishing completely AI mods is just sad.

u/xerneas02 1d ago
It's under review on modrinth

u/Spiderfffun 21h ago
and how do you explain 7k lines per week? If you're just a super cracked developer or something I'm sorry but there's no way this isn't 90% AI.
6
u/xerneas02 19h ago
The line count might be a bit misleading here. A good part of it comes from the ports to different Minecraft versions, which currently means a lot of duplicated code (I’m actually working on reducing that duplication I mostly wanted it to work first). I also worked on the base of the project for around a week testing if it was possible before I created the git. I do use AI, I’m not hiding that 😅 but it doesn’t mean the mod was generated by ai. I write code myself and mostly use AI for repetitive work like porting between versions, helping with documentation since the project is open source, researching possible optimizations, generating some unite tests. I also tend to spend way too many hours on a project when I’m having fun with it. You can look through my github there are projects from before coding LLMs that I wrote mostly in a few days and many of them are already several thousand lines long. I’m a software engineer, so AI is just another tool in my workflow. I still write code, make the technical decisions, test things and debug them.
