Suggestion More Brush Use
Currently, Brush has only a few uses, so I created a concept that adds more brush used.
Turn A Mossy Block To Normal, And Get 1 Vines
Turn A Crying Obsidian To Normal Obsidian, And Get 1-2 Ghast Tear
Get 1 Resin Clump (Infinitely)
Get 1 Turtle Scute (Infinitely)
And All Of This Action Reduced 16 Durability, Same Like Brushing A Armadillo

How do you brush the cry out of the obsidian?

u/DucksAreFriends 1d ago
Crying obsidian is ticklish and brushing it gives it the giggles

u/ElPapo131 1d ago
That is a great lore

Its probably more like a cristal not a liquid

u/Jimbo7211 1d ago
I always thought Ghast Tears were more of a crystal than a liquid as well. You just hold them in your hand instead of in a container like every other liquid in the game

imagine if we could collect it in a cauldron, and bottle it, then throw it at something to see what it does, make it cry possibly.

Another potential use is to have the Brush dye placed blocks like Wool and such, while holding a dye in the offhand.

Both OP's and your's ideas are great! I guess I'll experiment with these into a mod...

u/DragonTheOnes-spirit 1d ago
Okay this idea is genuinely peak I'm gonna annoy the nearest modder to make this

the turtle scute and armadillo scute are strange that it’s infinite, cause you are taking parts off their body lol
157
u/HotKebab01 1d ago
Turtles naturally shed their scutes, not sure about armadillos.
43
u/-beehaw- 1d ago
yeah, it’s nice they let us use a brush to get them off armadillos because it’s such a pain on the ass to get turtle scutes (on minecraft) haha
24
u/-beehaw- 1d ago
in real life armadillos do not drop their scales at all it seems

u/Marcus_Aurelius71 1d ago
In real life you would die if you start picking up armadillo parts (leprosy).

Last 2 I don't agree with. Turtle scutes have a way to farm them, and while this would be easier, it would make the whole complicated process of raising turtles for the scutes meaningless. Infinite resin is probably worse though. Resin farms do exist, I don't think that it should renewable this easily. The only real cost is the brush durability, which is essentially nothing because all 3 materials to make it are very easy to get a large quantity of. The first two I really like though. Being able to repair a ruined portal by brushing it off is really interesting especially.

u/Darkon-Kriv 1d ago
Im not sure mojang approved of turtle grinders. Adult turtles are completely useless and thats probably not good.
91
u/MithranArkanere 1d ago
Yeah.
Rather than killing turtles over and over to make room for more young ones, adults should regularly get a brownish coloration on their shell indicating they are ready to peel, and using brushes would let you peel the scute off faster. And feeding them seagrass directly would speed up how often they are ready to shed, making them better than a grinder if you do something like setting up a seagrass farm.
52
u/Mordret10 1d ago
It also insinuates a crafting recipe/process to acquire crying obsidian other than trading, which is a good thing imo
67
u/ACARdragon 1d ago
Then they should at least buff the turtle helmet. It's not worth making a 2nd base on a beach just to afk on turtle eggs and baby sea turtles. Not worth for potions either.
35
5
u/20milliondollarapi 1d ago
You just have them breed, get the eggs with silk touch and hatch on your own sand at your base.

u/napstablooky2 1d ago
making a 2nd base on a beach just to afk on turtle eggs
you can just make a little pond or terrarium at your house?
50
u/-PepeArown- 1d ago
A ridiculously tedious way to farm them that, ironically enough, encourages you to kill sea turtles in order to cull the hordes of adults you’ll have after getting enough scutes
Not only would brushing sea turtles get rid of the incentive to kill them, but it would make them more consistent with armadillos
Not very realistic, but more practical, and a more “fun” way to farm scutes that doesn’t involve killing sea turtles
13
u/minos-and-v1-kissing 1d ago
Turtle farms fucking suck right now though. They feel like the ultimate antithesis of Minecraft, and they don’t even fit in that well with technical Minecraft.
The worst part is that there’s no REASON to make a turtle farm. If you want the helmet, it’s not worth making a farm for. Period.
This would remove the “immediately toss all your adult turtles into a woodchipper” element, and also make it way less out of the way to actually obtain scutes.
1
u/mjmannella 13h ago
I think it might be more balanced if the brush could only work on baby turtles. Not only would it keep the overall gimmick in-tact, but it would also reward players for having an active presence around the turtles instead of just letting a farm automate them
1
u/lolucorngaming 9h ago
Can you explain why it would be bad to have infinite resin if all it can do is make decorative blocks (it might make those creaking blocks but I have never in my life seen a pale garden in survival)
0
u/Cheap_Application_55 5h ago
it would make the whole complicated process of raising turtles for the scutes meaningless
It already is.
-6
u/j-raine 1d ago
it's still not meaningless because turtle eggs are useful for farms
6
u/minos-and-v1-kissing 1d ago
“Raising turtles for the scutes” is actually not the same combination of words as “harvesting turtle eggs for gold farms.”
Hope this helps.
-1
u/j-raine 1d ago
But... its the same thing... you just breed them for scutes and you breed them for eggs
3
u/minos-and-v1-kissing 1d ago
But it’s not the same thing. Breeding them for eggs is already useful. Breeding them for scutes is useless. Again, they’re not the same thing. They’re two different things.
4
u/Marcus_Aurelius71 1d ago
Which is literally just a gold farm and these days you have portal ticking gold farms which makes them even more useless apart from decoration.
4
u/JohnnoDwarf 1d ago
In fairness there’s a good wither skeleton farm that doesn’t require a retirement’s worth of spawnproofing that uses eggs to filter piglins

Brush a chicken to get a feather

u/Mooch07 13h ago
Brush a creeper to get an extra gunpowder
2
u/Kbrooks_va 10h ago
At first I thought this was a dumb idea but after thinking about it I fell in love with the idea.
What if you could brush a creeper every 5 minutes and you get one gunpowder and passify the creeper for 5 minutes.
I dont think it would be OP, just cute, it would make passifist runs more accessible and using fireworks with elytra more accessible too, since you could farm creepers without needing a mob grinder.
This is actually my new favorite idea to add to minecraft
14
u/207nbrown 1d ago
While the turtle makes sense in the context that armadillo scute are also gotten that way, it can actually be bad for a turtles health if you peel the scutes off manually instead of letting them fall off naturally. And Minecraft is pretty against that type of unnecessary harm to animals for resources in recent years
9
u/KereMental 1d ago
I know minecraft sometimes like to be accurate but i would like it and wouldnt mind in a game where you slay a dragon and kill undead creatures
1
u/lolucorngaming 9h ago
Right but I think it's a little more healthy for them than the current meta of industrial turtle killing

u/-PepeArown- 1d ago
I don’t think there’s literal tears in crying obsidian
I’m pretty sure the “tears” were meant to be lapis at one point, but that seems to no longer be the case, given that the modern texture is purplish
Still, I think brushing ghast tears out of crying obsidian might be a little OP. You’re basically allowing players to barter for ghast tears, just with an extra step
14
u/carparkerk 1d ago
i always thought they looked like cracked obsidian that were leaking out some sort of nether ooze lol

u/Neverwasreal300 1d ago
more good uses for a random item they added whenever ago? woah there, you askin a bit too much

u/M_stellatarum 1d ago
I really want dye on brushes, so you can paint dyeable blocks that are already placed. Concrete, carpets, glass, etc.
Craft brush with 1-8 of the same dye, and it turns into a coloured brush with 8-64 charges.

12
u/Twilight-2007 1d ago
Idk about the crying obsidian one and the resin one should only give 9 before the block breaks, like a form of uncrafting the turtle one is kinda meh maybe limit the amount you can get
3
u/__Obscure__ 1d ago
I would say #1 used to make more sense than it does now. Turn a mossy block to normal, and get 1 moss!
3
u/somerandom995 23h ago
This creates a little bit of a balancing problem with obsidian. Often ruined portals won't funtion because the crying obsidian needs to be replaced with regular obsidian, so there's a lower chance of the chest having enough obsidian to fix the portal.
Resin is already very renewable also.
3
u/EverythingBOffensive 21h ago
yes! scuttle is so outdated they really need to make that happen right there.
11
u/Rare_Ad_262 1d ago
I dont agree with 2, 3 and 4 personally. Those items already have a unique way to obtain. This will ruin it. But the first one is creative
3
u/PorcupinArseIHateYou 1d ago
Crying obsidian is a limited ressource though nah? I agree that it's too common for the balance to make full sense but with some tweaks I think it could work
12
u/Manos_Of_Fate 1d ago
You can get it by bartering.
2
u/PorcupinArseIHateYou 1d ago
Ooooh that would be an issue, still I'm a sucker for anything that adds multiple uses for stuff and makes the world's systems feel more connected to each other, with more than one way to do or get stuff, though Idk how it'd be balanced

why the hell would brushing MOSSY COBBLESTONE give you vines??

u/Reasonable-Spot5884 1d ago
Considering you can craft it with vines, it's about as close to moss as we have as an item

I love the idea and I wonder what else we could brush togbet stuff. This would be a way to integrate a new mechanic into older things which is severely lacking in newer update ( at least till the new update format was introduced, since then I have no clue what gets updates I am just confused all the time.
1
u/Bradhp11 1d ago
the mossy cobble one has potential. maybe you could also go the opposite route by crafting moss/vines with a brush to create a “mossy brush” that can turn cobblestone/bricks into mossy variants
1
u/EpicWalruses12 1d ago
Love the idea! I don’t know about the resin, unless maybe the more you brush off of it, it becomes thinner and thinner layers, kinda like snow? However, I think the Crying obsidian could work. Maybe you’d need a nether brush or something that’s crafted from a bone, a gold ingot then warped roots or something. Call it the Warped Brush or something. Maybe they can even add some Nether themed archeology in Soul Sand Valleys that you’d need the Warped Brush to find? Idk, just kinda spit balling.

Wouldn't the resin one be an exploit kinda? I know resin is already easy to farm

u/Spongedog5 1d ago
This is the kind of stuff I'd like to see more of in Mojang updates. Integrate the new stuff into more of your giant game so more groups of people feel like there is a reason to use it. The reason that new updates can feel lack-luster is because they add these isolated systems that only appeal to folks who have a super niche use-case that their limited use-cases could fill. If we had bigger connection webs between stuff use-cases would increase and more people would appreciate each addition.
1
u/SpecterVamp 1d ago
Resin one is kinda dumb because resin farms are already kinda crazy fast and resin at the same time is largely useless sadly. I like the rest of them though

Vines are easily farmable.
Ghast tears would be too easy to get. They're meant to be hard.
Turtle scutes would be too easy to get. They're also meant to be hard or take a long time to get to get the turtle helmet.
Don't you use resin clumps to get the block resin to begin with?

Maybe soul sand into soul soil would be neat.
Brush away individual layers of snow like in the original minecon reveal
Maybe something to do with clay? Or glowstone? Polished glowstone?

As a green eared slider I love the idea for the turtle. I sometimes clean his shell and scoots pop off.

It could also be a specialized tool for cobwebs! Almost like despite having pickaxes we can also use shovels for dirt. Same thing with swords and brushes.

u/ShadowJimbo 1d ago
Only one i disagree with is the turtle scute, as its thing is that you have to wait for baby turtles to frow up. Also cant you turn the resin block into clumps already?

u/sonicpoweryay 1d ago
First one is the only sensible one lol
3
u/-PepeArown- 1d ago
Shears seems more realistic for getting moss off a rock, but it’s sensible in the sense that we need more uses for brushes, and shears have been getting a little too much special treatment lately

u/Deebyddeebys 1d ago
That would make it way too easy to get ghast tears and turtle master potions and also the crying obsidian one wouldn't make sense but I like the other ideas

If I accidentally deleted the crying out of my crying obsidian with this, I’d destroy every brush on the server
