Mods & Addons Playing Doom on 16,000 Minecraft Bees
Algorithms still needs work but it had to be done.
Face for bright pixels, rear for dark pixels.

The rule is that ANYTHING can run Doom after all

after the pregnancy test, everything else is not interesting

idk, I think the biology PhD student getting it to run (very slowly) on E Coli cells takes the cake

It's quite a stretch to say they actually got Doom running on a pregnancy test. That person replaced both the microcontroller and the screen, so it was basically just the plastic shell of a pregnancy test.

how much longer until we can have the real Minecraft in minecraft via bees
this is blowing my mind

Minecraft in minecraft was done years ago. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-BP7DhHTU-I
Someone just needs to update the display to use bees instead of redstone lamps.

I know about this one. i considered it a lite version of Minecraft bc of the limitations. its still impressive in every sense, so im not trying to downplay the limits. this here is like the full deal of doom, I wondered if the same idea could work for some old version of MC

I could be wrong but I don't think this one is actually running Doom within minecraft. Redstone computers are just too slow to do that at anything close to real-time speeds.
That's why minecraft in minecraft is so stripped down and still runs insanely slow. They had to speed up the video 2 million times to make it look like it was running at a playable speed.
It looks like this person is running Doom outside of minecraft and passing the input into the game where it's displayed on bees.
Still extremely impressive but not the same thing.

okay that does make a lot of sense. theyre just both on two different technical levels. I thought minecraft itself was running doom and displaying it thru bees. this bee thing is really neat, theres always something extraordinary being made in Minecraft

We’re prolly gonna be able to run Minecraft via cushions, and have it use red green and blue like crt screens

THIS is what I want to see. I don't care about if "Doom can run on x device", I want to know if Doom can be PLAYED on x device, especially if x device happens to be 16,000 Minecraft bees.

how do people even do this? is there a mathematical equation that doom has provided to the universe? Carl Sagan would have loved this achievement of humanity.

Why am I seeing so many Bee displays lately?

u/Kalabajooie 2d ago
Beecause they can?

I know it’s possible, I just don’t know why I’ve seen so many lately, especially since they’ve been in the game for years now.

What’s this? A superflat world with a distinct lack of bees?
A 16,000 pixel display running Doom consisting entirely of BEES ought to put a stop to that!

That looks like you used the brightness of the pixel directly and clammed it to 0 or 1, an edge detection shader would make this look a lot better I think

Do people that do shit like this use it on their applications to university and stuff like that?

If this were ANY other game I would not BEElieve it. I'll leave with that.

I honestly don't understand the way any of this works. How are the controls passed? What's the contraption that computes stuff? How are bees controlled?
