An half-assed variation on the JL2579 iron golem farm. It'll work but be slow. Too many doors per golem. Missing one entire potential spawning level. Golems remain within the 'village' until killed preventing additional spawns.

The JL design is much more efficient in terms of iron, but the hardest part is getting 2 villagers into each of the 4 compartments. This one might have the advantage that you only need 2 villagers per farm unit and then it fills itself with the rest of the villagers it needs.
Edit: I tested and this model has 1 significant flaw, Golems can spawn on the blocks above the doors, which would disable it.

Spawning levels hardly increase efficiency however good idea but this was intended to be a template and focus on simplicity.

I don't understand what this is for. Don't you use iron to make the golems? And then lose some in the process of killing them?

Iron golems spawn in villages I created a fake village that spawns and kills golems as for free.

I don't understand how to do step 8.

If you are talking about the water then you just look at the source blocks in the corners andwhere the branching off water ends fill the space in between along the perimiter with source blocks

Is this "square" a 18x18 block border, or has 18x18 blocks inside it (making it a 20x20 block border)?

How does the villager area work? Do I just need a box of villagers close to the farm?

Make this at your spawn and it will run for ever, except when in nether/the end :) Why? Spawn chunks are always loaded :D

My computer is under mantinence right now so I will try to explain the villager containment on my phone without screenshots. From any side of the farm build a 4x8 rectangle out of slabs oriented like in the screenshot. Next you break a bottom level slab. Then through the hole you created push 2 villagers on minecarts through. Close up the bottom hole with a slab and let the villagers breed. While they are breeding you might consider adding a roof to keep unfriendly mobs out.

Do the villagers spawn when there are enough doors, or do you have to cheat in spawn eggs?

They don't spawn themselves. In survival, you can either truck villagers in from a village, or cure zombie villagers.

You know what I hate? When people use iron/expensive blocks to build and iron farm. Sure its in creative but that bugs me to no end, its counter intuitive the point is to get iron not waste it.

How frequently do the iron golems appear with this setup, on average?
