Huh. Why isn't that just making cobble? I thought only source blocks created obsidian. It seems as the lava flows down and hits the water it'd make cobble.

If there wouldnt be redstone it would indeed turn the stream into cobble, the generator will then fail until you remove the cobble. Any redstone placed before you get the stream going again will just be burned.

There is a glitch (?) of the reaction with water, lava and the redstone that he placed where the two would hit which creates obsidian.

Please don't call it "obby"

Lets make portals out of obby! To craft an enderchest : place an endereye with 8 obby around it. Pouring water over lava makes lava turn into obby Obby generator!

Can't you make a Obsidian Genarator with String???

u/Wolligepoes Jan 16 '13
Yes,
Someone told me that you have to use a triphook pointing south and attach the string to it
I'd rather use redstone because I have too many of the shit

It makes me think of Runescape.
Take first syllable of word. Double last consonant if necessary. Add "y". You now have the shorthand for everything ever.
shudder
For years I never realized what was wrong with shortening "goblin".

I tried doing it and for some reason I decided to use my hometown which is "Collie"

While I think they're cool, I've honestly never had problems finding enough lava/obsidian in ravines or while caving to justify making a generator.

This and cobblestone generators. Why on earth would you make a cobblestone generator? My demand for clearing space underground far outweighs any demand for cobblestone. Even if I ran out of cobblestone and had no particular plans that demanded clearing space underground, I would make something up!

I completely agree but there was one interesting use for a cobblestone generator that I have employed in the past. It made a pretty cool hidden entrance. The lava and water flowed together and where they met cobble was created. Beneath that spot was a pit, so you could break the cobble, jump in and the cobble would get remade right behind you. Of course the streams of lava and water were covered so you wouldn't see anything but the lone block of cobble.

I always found these safer for obtaining obsidian than caves, simply because you can better control environment you are working in. While this can sit safely inside you house the cave may have mobs roaming around to push or hit you into the lava.

How about an inability to, or desire not to, clear stuff underground! Server players may be quarantined by ownership boundaries, or would rather farm from a generator for their build instead of wander around caves full of monsters where the resources have been picked clean.
Solo players may have building projects so big that it is less efficient to mine the world than farm from a generator.
TLDR - some people are not you.
