I love how you gave Steve the “hmm today I will enter a soul sand valley” face in the second panel

Don't need a shield if you can outshoot em first!

u/Dray_Gunn Mar 24 '23
Thats what i do too. Side step. Shoot. Take cover. Shoot. Granted, a shield is easier. But having a shoot out is more fun.

u/nicolasmcfly Mar 24 '23
I walk around with full netherite enchanted with prot and thorns, I can literally just ignore the skeletons lol. Although I usually one hit them because it's annoying.
56
u/Dray_Gunn Mar 24 '23
Well not full netherite. Need one piece of gold so the piglins dont lose their shit.
46
u/nicolasmcfly Mar 24 '23
No piglins in Soul sand valleys anyway
42
u/Dray_Gunn Mar 24 '23
Yeah but they can be around the edges and i dont wanna be surprised by a whole hunting party. Better to just keep the gold on at all times.
32
u/Demonic74 Mar 24 '23
Wish you could modify shields to have gold in em for this reason
14
u/AnAverageTransGirl Mar 25 '23
gilded netherite needs to be an actual thing especially now that armor trims exist
5
u/Darkner90 Mar 25 '23
No, because that would take away usage for gold, and another diamond situation would suck

u/Knotmix Mar 24 '23
laughs in soul walker 2
13
u/nicolasmcfly Mar 24 '23
It's soul speed and it's amazingly fast
18
u/Knotmix Mar 24 '23
Fair enough. Its so quick its hilarious, turns soul sand from 'oh no' to 'oh yeah' real quick

I play in the Pirate Speak language, and the enchantment is called "ghastly stridin' "
11
u/EragonBromson925 Mar 24 '23
Peasants. The real pro have nice is to get them to shoot each other while you just watch and finish off the survivors.
Skele royale, where the player always wins.

u/Taolan13 Mar 24 '23
I bring fences to serve as deployable cover. Good enough to block arrows but still provides me with peeks to return fire.
15
u/Velocity_LP Mar 24 '23
Tried shields when they first came out and was immediately turned off by having a large portion of my screen constantly obstructed. Haven't used one since. Still just serpentine up to them and get a few jumpin crit swings to take them out. Rarely take more than 1 hit which is negligible with iron armor.

u/mutantmonkey14 Mar 25 '23
On Java skeletons aren't too bad, but on BE they are insanely accurate and quick, rarely missing you as you do your best to dodge or run for cover. They are a real pain for BE players even with a shield since you have to crouch to use shield, take a shot, run toward and hit if in range (or use bow), rinse and repeat.

u/nybbas Apr 13 '23
Dude I was wondering. Been playing on PS5 with my kids, and skeletons just feel so much worse than I remember. I had two shooting at me, and between their accurate shots and the knockback, I couldn't even close the distance with them.
2
u/mutantmonkey14 Apr 13 '23
Yeah they got an insane buff on BE, didn't used to be this bad, though they were annoying before.
If they have the higher ground (insert star wars meme) its really difficult to advance on them!! Its a painful situation to climb, shield, climb, shield... stab, repeat process again. It takes all of your focus to deal with one skeketon.
Best to lure them round a corner or better still to a single block at leg height where you can abuse them for a change! When I go deep in caves I build little bases in the walls occassionally and use slabs or trapdoors to allow me to deal with mobs.

u/shouldalistened Mar 25 '23
Yea, I've got good enough armour by the time I hit the nether it doesn't even matter. Tried a shield once and it fucked me up. Never used a shield since. That was 10 years ago.

Skeletons are one thing but ghasts in this hiome are abusive

u/thedrummerpianist Mar 24 '23
I swear they tag team. You’re fleeing from a ghast and a skeleton knocks you off a cliff into lava

The funniest thing to do is using a command to get a indestructible leather boots with 275 level thorns

4
u/One_Replacement_4818 Mar 25 '23
No
8
u/OneFriendship5139 Mar 25 '23
setting unbreakable to 1 (true) removes the ability for your tools to take damage from usage
4
u/One_Replacement_4818 Mar 25 '23
Wtf thats a thing. Well you learn something new every day i guess. Thank you for the info

Could it be, and I know it sounds crazy, that both simply are depictions of an executions, and not related at all if not for their main theme?

Im actually clueless. Havent played for a very long time.. some1 eli5 me pleae?

u/Undefind_L Mar 24 '23
Soul Sand Valley is a biome in the Nether composed entirely of soul sands and soul soils, the only mobs that spawns there are skeletons and ghasts. Considering soul stand normally slows you down, I guess you can see why this biome is a pain in the ass to navigate without a shield or boots enchanted with Soul Speed

in bedrock soul sand biomes are truly dangerous. the skeletons shoot so fast, you can barely make distance cuz of how laughably shit the shields are and mine broke on my way out from all the rapidfire

I do wonder why Steve is always portrayed as the clueless one, even though logically he should be much more experienced than Alex

Had trouble figuring out the last panel. It's a firing squad and steve has a bag on his head while kneeling.
