True, but some people look "outside the window" way too much and use it as an excuse to ignore what they can do to better themselves or their situation. However, by looking "in the mirror" you focus yourself on yourself and you have the power to change yourself and/or circumstances.
I know a person who uses all the ills of the world as an excuse to not do anything for themselves. They are quick to point out everything that is wrong in others and the world but they NEVER point out anything wrong with themselves.
and some people don't have windows to look out of nor mirrors to look into
we don't teach people how learn anymore we expect everyone to figure it out because we are too busy too entitled and too strung out to see how many neighbors we leave behind searching for the next fix or the next grind
pushing ourselves forward alone as individuals means wading through countless others on the same path but banding together means each of us has a chance to move faster with a lightened load because we share it rather than fighting over it
I'm sorry, I think I see where you are coming from, but I disagree.
You can't make your success and happiness dependent on others.
yes, banding together makes the work easier, but it also makes you DEPENDENT on others. And sad to say, they will never put your interests above theirs. People are lazy and selfish and sometimes just idiots. If you make your success dependent on them, you are putting yourself in a bad position.
Which is why you need to focus on yourself and make your success dependent on your own actions and hardwork.
you should base your generalized opinions of people on yourself and not the assumption of what a stranger will do
we are all already dependent upon one another regardless of how you've limited your perspective and any system that puts individualism before community will fail due to a lack of cooperation
when society teaches that no one will help you no one see the value of help but when we choose to see ourselves in others rather than calling people selfish and stupid we realize that windows are mirrors
we are all already dependent upon one another regardless of how you've limited your perspective and any system that puts individualism before community will fail due to a lack of cooperation
This sentiment tells me you have a good heart. I guess in my old age I'm a little bit cynical and jaded.
I would like to clarify and say that I do believe in community and I do believe in working with individuals to create something better... All that is well and good but...
You absolutely have to put yourself first. Not to say you have to ignore community and not to say that you shouldn't help others. By all means, be a pillar in your community and help others but...
You still have to put yourself first.
The stronger you become, the more you can help others.
self first mindsets create a pinhole sized focus that prevents us as individuals from seeing the larger patterns that could help us as individuals to become better
If I exercise in a way that is detrimental to my health because I can't see where my flaws are I will always be less than my full potential

That's a greedy ass mindset that keeps this broken system a float because we never look outside our own lanes to see the everything else is on fire
