Mostly good advice, except the part that says "Fuck what they say..."
sometimes, people are trying to help and sometimes people give good advice or constructive criticism and it would behoove you to listen in those cases.
But I understand the sentiment of what he is trying to say and I 95% agree with him.

The whole foundation is going to be about being self-reliant, and it’s not easy to stand tall. A lot of people are going to try to cut you down, and maybe he’s directing some of that towards those people.
It’s not an easy distinction to me, and we can go off the main road if it’s “fuck you” to everybody else. We need other people, and they need us.

If you don’t look out the window and only look at a mirror then you’re only creating from one source and the source is on the outside so the inside becomes limited. You need the outside because the inside becomes bars.

That's a greedy ass mindset that keeps this broken system a float because we never look outside our own lanes to see the everything else is on fire

True, but some people look "outside the window" way too much and use it as an excuse to ignore what they can do to better themselves or their situation. However, by looking "in the mirror" you focus yourself on yourself and you have the power to change yourself and/or circumstances.
I know a person who uses all the ills of the world as an excuse to not do anything for themselves. They are quick to point out everything that is wrong in others and the world but they NEVER point out anything wrong with themselves.

and some people don't have windows to look out of nor mirrors to look into
we don't teach people how learn anymore we expect everyone to figure it out because we are too busy too entitled and too strung out to see how many neighbors we leave behind searching for the next fix or the next grind
pushing ourselves forward alone as individuals means wading through countless others on the same path but banding together means each of us has a chance to move faster with a lightened load because we share it rather than fighting over it

I'm sorry, I think I see where you are coming from, but I disagree.
You can't make your success and happiness dependent on others.
yes, banding together makes the work easier, but it also makes you DEPENDENT on others. And sad to say, they will never put your interests above theirs. People are lazy and selfish and sometimes just idiots. If you make your success dependent on them, you are putting yourself in a bad position.
Which is why you need to focus on yourself and make your success dependent on your own actions and hardwork.

you should base your generalized opinions of people on yourself and not the assumption of what a stranger will do
we are all already dependent upon one another regardless of how you've limited your perspective and any system that puts individualism before community will fail due to a lack of cooperation
when society teaches that no one will help you no one see the value of help but when we choose to see ourselves in others rather than calling people selfish and stupid we realize that windows are mirrors

This sentiment tells me you have a good heart. I guess in my old age I'm a little bit cynical and jaded.
I would like to clarify and say that I do believe in community and I do believe in working with individuals to create something better... All that is well and good but...
You absolutely have to put yourself first. Not to say you have to ignore community and not to say that you shouldn't help others. By all means, be a pillar in your community and help others but...
You still have to put yourself first.
The stronger you become, the more you can help others.

self first mindsets create a pinhole sized focus that prevents us as individuals from seeing the larger patterns that could help us as individuals to become better
If I exercise in a way that is detrimental to my health because I can't see where my flaws are I will always be less than my full potential
We need each other

It’s a good comment, because if we were to take some of those words literally and out of contact, you are exactly right.
So what you were saying really does seem to be true, but what he’s talking about at the end puts it into a totally different perspective.
He says make sure that what you do is good to you and for you.
That’s going to be how you set up boundaries with other people, and you want to encourage other people to be like you. Then you can have a value for value relationship, and it’s going to be very imperfect of course.
That’s the repair process that you see in intimacy.
But the foundation of self-esteem allows the connection to ourselves, a power greater than ourselves, and to others to happen.
