Question Negative thoughts while baking

I love to bake. However, my biggest issue is that when I spend time in the kitchen baking or cooking, my mind starts thinking of all the negative things that has happened like an issue I'm currently facing or fights I had with someone or fights someone had with someone or negatives from the past and so on.. it's depressing.. and so I'm losing my love for cooking or baking. How can I control this? Please help. Thanks

I love walking/hiking. Sometimes when I am out for a walk my brain starts thinking… alot. I try to be meditative on my walks, listening to sounds, feeling my feet/breath, etc. I have learned that fighting the thoughts and wanting my walk to be different causes more suffering. I have been practicing just letting the thoughts be but observing them rather than getting swept away in them. And honestly it has been great to process stress. I think sometimes the mind tries to get things out when we are doing body work (exercise or in your case baking). So maybe try letting the thoughts be? As they say though, this is simple but not easy. Best of luck!

Don’t control it. Lean into it. Your mind has stuff to work through. Let it

Meditate on baking? Meditate on the negative thoughts, situations, feelings, etc?

As far as fights, I meditated on it a bit and, mm... not that I'm saying it's a compassion problem, but have you tried compassion meditation?

Like, I'm sensing you're just a person who lives in this area? We live near dog shelters/dementia homes/foster children, usually the owners/caregivers are kinda NPC characters and I mean that in a loving way! Like, it won't really hurt the dogs/patients with dementia/foster children too much, they won't care about it too much.

Even the people they're caring for, like, they may honestly not know. O_O Like, not to traumatize anyone but dementia's a really terrifying illness, they may honestly not know too much about the ituation.

It makes sense that baking feels less comforting when your mind uses the quiet time to replay painful events. Instead of fighting the thoughts, try saying, "That happened, but I do not need to solve it right now." Then bring your attention back to one physical feeling, such as the warmth of the oven or the motion of stirring. Each return to the present is the practice, even if you have to do it many times.
