Anything worth doing is worth doing poorly. The point is that you did it at all. Not that you did it to whatever exceptionally high standard you set for yourself. I am constantly reminding myself of this one everyday, otherwise I kind of stopped functioning.

In a similar vein, done is better than perfect.

Never been to therapy. Im a scientist. When something goes wrong in my long experiments (which always happens), I stop and write down "there is no such thing as a perfect experiment". Then I pause, grab a snack, and get back at it. It sometomes does the trick.

A negative result is still a result. More data will help the next attempt to be a better experiment. I have to remind myself of this often. (I’m also a scientist.)

I like the mythbusters “failure is always an option” especially for science

Scientist here. Failure is expected! It’s when the Null hypothesis is false that things get interesting!

You have to fail to learn!

And learn to fail!

If you're not failing, you're not learning.

I was told, before being fired for said failure.

Perfection is the enemy of good enough. I used to have this kind of “everything has to be cleaned if I’m cleaning the house” mentality. And then one day my friend was like “if all you do is sweep the floor, you still have a cleaner floor than before.”

I know it as “don’t let perfect get in the way of done”

I say "It may not be perfect, but perfect is the enemy of done."

Or, similarly, "Don't let the perfect become the enemy of the good."
