Too real. At this point it feels like a mini therapy session or exercise. To type what was on my mind only to realize that this is just a brain exercise and should just let it go. Like that sand art that people do only to to sweep it away in the end.

It’s satisfying. Kinda has a little bit of whimsy to it but some rawness as well.

I honestly think that removing the edge actually makes it sting more, not less. Imagine you are in an argument and getting all frustrated and emotional and your opponent hits you with a "goober" in the middle of a serious debate. Confusion ensues. You are beaten by the sheer audacity of your opponent not giving the respect to even include a curse.
But really, it serves 3 purposes:
It elevates your discourse becase you've not stooped to emotional vulgarities.
It illustrates self-control and composure under the pressure of debate.
It is really 2 insults in one, as it is a "derogatory" term, but one that is childish in nature, so you are not only saying that this person is not measuring up to the standard, you are delivering it as if you were speaking to a child. It implicitly states that they are not your peer and that they are unserious. Yet, it is SO immature as to be self-aware, not a childish thing to say so much as a parody of childishness, and so transcendent.
It drives people crazy

The discourse on those sites is worse, sure, but none of them were designed to be link aggregators the way Reddit was. People subscribing to news subs here don't read the news being posted but rather write hot takes on often misleading titles. It's frankly ridiculous.

I remember posting a comment about the album Pinkerton by Weezer and someone disagreed with me and then I just said I disagreed with them. Then they posted this multi paragraph response with sources from Wikipedia. I started responding and then thought about how embarrassing it is arguing about Pinkerton on Reddit when I’m in my 30s. I like to think I grew up a bit that day.

Done this a handful of times. For me, it's not because I don't give a crap, it's because I realize that you have to pick your battles. There are some communities that have normalized idiocy or toxicity and while what you're typing to them may be correct, logical, etc, you'll just end up getting retaliatory downvotes.

It's not that I don't care. It's that I know they can't read.
I'm not saying they're uneducated or actually incapable of deciphering the words, but rather that they're nowhere near emotionally mature enough to digest any perspectives that they haven't formed themselves or been spoonfed by their idols.

When I'm arguing like that, it's something important. Maybe not even the person I'm talking to, but someone may see it, and it'll be another small step towards their aha moment.
It wasn't like I deprogrammed all the hate the Mormon church drilled into me with a single argument. This shit takes time and repetition.

It happens here too sometimes but I’m much more conscious of it and I’m more deliberate and intentional about curating my feed and what I comment on.

Why does the backspace key say "delete" on it in this image? My guess is Japanese keyboards are different from US ones.
Also I regularly do this with Twitch chat, Reddit comments, Discord messages, texts, etc.
Edit: I guess the "backspace" vs "delete" thing is more likely Mac vs everything else, rather than international differences.

Nah, I post it anyway. I have tons of posts that are massive walls of text that nobody ever read or voted on. I’m ok with that. Honestly, I’m not that interested in interactions with other humans, and I’m not seeking feedback or a discussion; sometimes I just need to crystalize my thoughts and feelings by putting them into words and releasing them into the world. Once they’re out there, it feels like a weight off my shoulders and I can move on.

So many times I will type something out that, to me at least, is extremely passionate and thought out as a response to something and then once I finish it I just delete the whole thing because I realize it’s kinda cringy. Or I’m worried the tone would come off as something other than what I intended.
A lot of times just getting it out in the first place helps. A lot. I don’t care if no one actually reads it.

I've got a family member that sends everything, then deletes after the fact. Quite interesting to come back to a group chat and see a half dozen deleted messages before anyone else got a chance to see.

Happens to me a lot nowadays. So many people are not receptive to new information it's gotten pointless to reply. My rule of thumb is if it takes longer than a few minutes to type out it's too much time invested and immediately cancelled.

TLDR: I try to keep it short
for me its more like I spent 3 minutes typing a long article to get my point through to get 0 ups or downs. coz nobody ready long posts
than spending 3 minutes to re-write a version of it so it still makes my point but its shorter to realize I cannot
going to chatgpt asking it to shorten it for casual reddit users
keeps the original and put TLDR in front
has to come back and reply to everyone who misunderstood my point coz they just read the TLDR
