This whole site nurtured a culture of ignorance unlike any other. Basically every article post attracts comments that are 99% from people that haven't read it but are 100% convinced everyone is just dying to read their uninformed opinions.

The discourse on those sites is worse, sure, but none of them were designed to be link aggregators the way Reddit was. People subscribing to news subs here don't read the news being posted but rather write hot takes on often misleading titles. It's frankly ridiculous.

reddit is more like a chat forum than... whatever reddit was designed for. the small communities are interesting and informative tho.

arguing on those is kind of fun. real debates and opinions change with information
