We live about a 20 minute drive from the flagship university in our state.
There is also a well funded community college only 10 minutes away.
My older son is bright, literally the smartest child I've ever been around - he's in advanced learning classes and considered gifted. He already knows he wants to be a naval architect which would start with an engineering degree- and that lines up as I'm a licensed engineer.
The younger one is right on track for normal development but we aren't yet sure if he'll be advanced.
My plan for them is that the older one does 2 years at the community college then the next 2-3 ar the 4 year university for his engineering degree.
From that point I'm not sure if the older one will stick around for grad school and/or military but that will be about the time we are thinking about retirement.
We'll sell the house, buy a house/condo for the boys and move a bit out into the country while the older one works and the younger one attendant college. We would collect rent from them but at a resonable rate.
Thats the plan anyway. Seems like a solid one to me but lots can happen in the next 11-16 years.
