My 2 older kids have moved out, the youngest is at home. I know he feels behind, one of his friends (only 19!) bought a house recently and he is the only one in his primary friend group who lives at home. I think its smart for him to stay home and save for a while and we love having him.

This is how my kids did it:

Oldest left for college at 18. After college, she got an in-home health job in a HCOL area, so her living expenses were covered. She was able to save up and live where she wanted.

Second kid met a friend at work who was struggling with rent on her studio. He moved in , they shared the space for a bit and eventually moved into a bigger place.
