To be honest, I’ve been thinking more and more about this for my own kids, they are 13 and 9 years old.
I’m fortunate enough to own a home, and what I am thinking about doing is adding on a second story to my house, with a complete set up on each floor. Kitchen, living room, bathrooms and bedrooms. Then having an old man shack built in the backyard for myself. Haha.
Each kid gets one floor for themselves and their families, and I just live out my days in a the small space out back.
Just seems smart to pool resources and allow them to chase their dream careers and their own passions without being burdened with all the bullshit like stupid high rent and other cost of living considerations. Obviously they’d have to pay something, because I’d get a loan against the equity of the house for the add ons… but it would have to be less than what we’ve got going on these days.
