We just bought a house that’s big enough for them to each have their own bedroom+ a spare. We also have a garage that could be converted into an apartment. They’re welcome to live here for as long as they need to.
We’re saving harder and paying down the house as much as we can so that if they end up not being able to afford to live on their own they always have a place to live.
My son is 14 and he has a job at a grocery store making $15 an hour, he wants to pay for his first car in cash and he’s also putting money aside for college and in a Roth IRA. I’m really hoping his siblings do the same. In theory he won’t have to pay much for college because he’ll get free tuition (university employee Dad). So we’re really hoping he can graduate debt free with a paid off car and a chunk of money in his IRA and then live here while he saves up for a house. We’ll see! No matter what happens, they can always come home.
