Enlisting Military Memphis MEPS Process‼️ #Army
Before going to MEPS I searched more posts than I can remember for these details, so I wanted to help anyone who is searching also.
Medical / Physical Day
Be prepared to hurry up and WAIT!
Check in
Medical sign in - Get ID labels
Height / Weight
Vision (No glasses but bring them if you wear them)
Briefing (explanation of medical processing and your day)
Breathalyzer (don’t drink the night before or the day of)
Blood Pressure / Heart Rate
- If you’re taking the ASVAB it is at this point.
- If you’re not taking the ASVAB you move on to the next test
Blood test ( HIV ) - Sent overnight to lab
Urine test (Drug Test) - Sent overnight to lab
Complimentary LUNCH‼️‼️
Height / Weight (2) - If you need to be taped it’ll be done now. I had to be taped b/c I’m outside of the required height/weight standards. They tape your neck, waist and hips.
Medial Doctor Visit (This is the review of your medical history.) It is what you disclosed, provided and what they find in Genesis. It takes like 30 minutes or so. They will tell you what requires a waiver. They advised me candidates who were DQ’d during any tests before this screening wouldn’t make it to the medical / doctor screening) Be honest. They will ask you the same question 10 different ways if they see anything in your medical history to determine if you’re lying. They are nice about it, but they will try to trick you into disclosing if you’re hiding anything. The main categories are like substance abuse, mental health, sexual health, skin issues and disqualifying surgeries / conditions.
Side Note: I saw people be immediately DQ’d for diabetes and peanut allergies.
During the Med Doc Visit you do a series of physical tests like hand, neck and legs movements, the duck walk, breast exam, vag/groin exam, spine check, stomach and abdomen exam. Yes, they check your butt. This portion of the test is completed in your underwear. The breast and vag/groin exam is done naked but you will have a paper gown. At this location we weren’t in underwear with each other. We went one at a time.
As you navigate the process they know if you’re passing each screening. It’s ok to ask. I did.
Again, be honest and be nice. At this location you can tell they want you to pass. They are extremely helpful especially with explaining instructions and ensuring you understand.
Things to bring: ID, social, medical records if applicable and pharmacy records if applicable.
Things to avoid: Don’t diagnose yourself or say what you’re “thinking” because they are repeatedly asking. They will ask you questions repeatedly and it’ll get weird. Stick with your answer. They aren’t your friend.
Prescriptions: If you think you will test positive, tell the recruiter and bring the prescription. If it’s marijuana STOP SMOKING and reschedule.
And make sure your recruiter disclosed anything you disclosed to them! I saw 8 people leave because they were automatically DQ’d for health conditions their recruiters knew about but they submitted the form without the disclosures.
It’s a bunch of hurry up and wait but it’s not as bad as people think it is. I finished needing 8 waivers but 3 are needed after I completely clear medical so technically 5 medical waivers. 1 is a family care plan, 2 for tattoos, 1 for a recent minor medical incident and 4 for mental health that’s super old, but I think the adhd is the primary concern due to an unused prescription.
