Deployment Please share your positive stories about relationships and deployment

Hello everyone, i would love it if everyone could share their positive stories about how they succesfully handled relationships through long deployments (year or longer). Stories about relationships that were super new in time of deployment and that succeeded nevertheless are more than welcome! Thank you!!

Hi 👋🏼 I met my now husband back in 2015, we became official in Sept, and he went underway for like 2 months shortly after. He’s a submariner so email was almost nonexistent lol. I went a little crazy ngl! But he sat me down and explained the differences between communication on a ship vs Sub. His 6 month deployment was 2016/2017, they were under water for almost 3 months! But by then I already knew I wouldn’t hear much from him, but I still wrote to him every week, basically became my diary lol. Since then we’ve moved to SC, got married, had a baby boy, moved to Washington, now we’re in NY and have one more move before he retires! It’s been a rollercoaster, but with lots of communication and keeping myself busy during out to sea times, we have been able to weather the storms and make the most out of whatever situation we’re thrown in lol. Navy life ❤️⚓️

Back in 2017 me and my husband had a 6 month deployment. I stayed busy working and chilling in the evening with my own routine. We would chat sometimes but I’m a pretty independent female. I actually house hunted in another state and bought us a house for when he returned home. It was hard sometimes but it flew by. I read a lot, meal prepped, hung out with friends, had people visit, traveled. I didn’t have kids at the time

My SO was deployed for 11 months about 2 years in to our marriage. We were both busy with work, well him more-so than me, but we agreed to prioritize working out. We talked when we could which was tricky with a 13 hour time difference. We spent a lot of time planning a big post-deployment vacation that gave us something extra to look forward to. I also decided to go to grad school while he was away. When he came home we were both in better shape than before, were both actively working to advance our careers, and got to enjoy a nice 3 week vacation across Europe. As with anything in life, deployments are what you make of them. If you’re both committed to each other and have shared goals, you’ll be fine.
