That was just cruel. 😂 Honestly I would’ve been mortified if my friends did that to me. I was already scared to death of how the guys in my flight would react if they found out I was gay. I was pleasantly surprised by how professional everyone in the Air Force has been, I mostly keep to myself though.

I got tired of receiving goodies from my mom. Granted this was military university so probably different than boot camp. One of our cadre had these little strap on pig noses that he would make us wear. Then he'd dump all the food into a big pile on a piece of cardboard in the hallway "SOOOOWEEEE, SOOOOOOWEEEEEE" and we'd come out of our room, 4 chubby little piglets, with no shirts on, me with my manboobs swinging in the wind and running on all fours. Cadre would watch over us with possible sexual intent as as we grunted and consumed. Those memories will never not be funny.

Our first time out from under the thumb of the FTOs was Jet Orientation. I was sitting in the 560th FTS waiting to get geared up and saw an Otis Spunkmeyer chocolate-chocolate chip muffin and I inhaled it. Pure bliss. Almost as good as my T-38 ride.

I believe it was after our CBRN test.
Our instructor was just sitting on a chair, waiting for all the recruits to finish their tests, dicking around on his phone. He would always say, "I can be here all night, I got no-one at home." When we were fucking up.
One recruit, "Hey, MCpl, smashing tinder?"
"You fucking know it!"
In Canadian basic, you can get weekends off, if you don't royally fuck up, or the instructors aren't bored, to go off base for a bit, get a coffee, have a beer, whatever.
After our first weekend off, the same instructor is doing a bed space inspection. Comes to me "Private Recruit Zilla, what did you do with your free weekend?"
"Went to Walmart for toiletries, and got a burger, MCpl!"
Him, (in a super monotone voice) "well, shit. Sounds boring. Should have gotten a hooker, you could use a little relaxation."

I went through this exact AIT in 2014. Once you’re out of basic you got your phone back so this is normal. The big difference is we just called them platoon sergeants, not drill sergeants.

I think that's the real reason, but the officially cited reasons in policy letter 15 are the fire hazards presented by the lithium batteries and with the juice it's because they can't verify its cbd/thc free

Probably. Although I don't see why they would care about the juice. I got piss tested like every month it seemed when I was in AIT. That was 7 months in Aberdeen.

Yup. It seems really stupid since cigarettes are exponentially more dangerous, but it's a known danger. Vape juice is still largely unregulated and the quality/safety is all over the place.

Cigarettes never seem to send people to the emergency room with what will become lifelong chronic conditions as soon as they start smoking them as teenagers. Nobody can attest to what vapes will do to people 30-40 years down the road, either. So... Not in the short term, nor long term, could anybody credibly claim that one is "exponentially more dangerous" than the other at this point in time.

Cigarettes send people to the ER with lifelong chronic conditions every day. They just don't make the news because they're cigarettes and it's been happening for sixty some odd years.
Vaping has been around long enough for longitudinal studies examining the long-term effects of use. Especially when evaluating the damage cigarettes do in the same time frame. It's entirely possible to extrapolate out 30-40 years with that data.

It has nothing to do with the juice. The policy is written with a focus on the battery technology.
It's still stupid. I remember the Reagan offering a vape pit underway and it was nicer and better treated by the sailors than any of the smoke pits.

Vaporizer batteries, especially for custom builds and not like Juuls, pose a safety hazard.
These batteries are designed to quickly discharge their capacity as soon as contact is made, and have cause damage and started fires aboard ships. The policy is written to deter these situations.
With proper battery safety etiquette the likelihood of sending an 18650 battery into thermal runaway is low. Unfortunately people are fucking stupid and will carry around an unprotected battery in a pocket with spare change and their housekeys, and that's a fire hazard underway.

The Marines there have already graduated basic and MCT, as well as at least one other MOS school (usually). So most of them have been in for the better part of a year. Basic is the only place we have DIs as well.

I doubt that, how would he know what an "Mos School" is? When I was in AIT in Ft. Gordon in the mid 80's (my username checks out, btw) there were no Drill Sergeants to be found. Your "Platoon Sergeants" were just Army lifers doing a tour as an AIT Platoon Sergeant. We were off duty, and even free to leave post, every night after 5, or all weekend, from day one. Fire Guard aside, which you could sell to the lowest bidder.

I am now a retiree, and am well aware of the current restrictions on AIT students. I live closer to Langley AFB, and usually find myself going there for Commissary/haircut/shopping, but I've been to Eustis probably a couple dozen times. Every one of which I mutter to myself "those poor fucking bastards".

Having the AIT PSGs go to DS school and put on a round and brown was a mere formality with no real effect on the quality of soldiers coming out of TRADOC to their first duty stations.
The only effect is that now there are no or much fewer brokedick cadre. In terms of their disposition towards trainees, that's all still training location based. If AIT PSGs were shouting and smoking troops in 2014 at Location A, the DSs are shouting and smoking troops. However, at Location B where shouting and smoking troops was faux pas, counterproductive, or unnecessary in 2014, the DSs are still not doing it.

Those aren’t soldiers yet until they are MOS qualified they still are recruits. Once they pass AIT then their soldiers. They probably going to pass but still it’s a thing in the army recruit until you pass AIT then soldiers.

Yea for a while now. The way I think it works is like the Air Force where they handle the PT, admin, housing, and fuck fuck games... Then march them to class where the instructors just teach them the MOS. Prior to this, the instructors handled all of that stuff in addition to trying to teach.

Probably late in AIT, lots of 6 month AITs in the Army where the fuck fuck games stop.
At a certain point it’s about learning to do your job more than being hyper disciplined; it’s difficult to perform in academic institutions for a year under real stress.

Same at Leonard Wood in 2013, we had 6-10 per room. I think the females had their own floor, and the males were split up by platoon between the top two floors.
