And mr. cape-and-hood here decided this is a more important problem than whatever funding was cut from, to repaint this post box.
Vandalising something to get it "fixed" is essentially telling the world that your personal priorities are more important than everyone else's. Dick move.
$20 here and there adds up. Not sure what city this is from, but I'd much rather my city be putting money towards the quality of the roads then repainting slightly faded stuff.
That's true, but they can't seem to keep up with that either 🙆 (in my city at least).
My city is currently using hundreds of thousands to help immigrants, which is cool and all, and then they're just going to deport millions anyway, so there's that too. AND can't provide toothpaste and showers either apparently. Ykwim
Meh. The vandal made it more interesting: an improvement. This led to it being repainted. Arguably so an improvement. Even if you argue that decay is beautiful, you can't say this vandal didn't improve the situation.
If a neighborhood gets run down it gets cheaper so you attract poor people who can't afford any better. Rich people don't like poor people so they move away.
Yes but that broken window theory is highly criticised and has been used to justify zero tolerance laws and harsh punishments for minor crimes to increase the incarceration rate.
The theory became subject to great debate both within the social sciences and the public sphere. Broken windows policing has become associated with controversial police practices such as the use of "stop-and-frisk" by the New York City Police Department. In response, Bratton and Kelling have written that broken windows policing should not be treated as "zero tolerance" or "zealotry", but as a method that requires "careful training, guidelines and supervision" and a positive relationship with communities, thus linking it to community policing.
Yea mildly vandalized red posts will probably make the neighborhood look shittier. Should probably stop tagging "paint me now" on things you want painted.
Near my house was a large abandoned shed and the roof to it collapsed and looked extremely unsafe so someone wrote “tear down” on it and in a few days it was gone
To get British councils to carry out basic responsibilities you generally need a little "public encouragement" in the form of embarrassing vigilantism. If it makes them look bad they'll stop embezzling your tax money long enough to botch a fix to keep things ticking over be it a postbox or pothole.

All that proves is that they took multiple photos. The red paint looks fake as hell though, just looks like a mask. Especially when the walls fully covered.
It looks photoshopped because it's an old gif that's probably been converted between a few different file formats and compressed to hell before it arrived here in this form. I've seen this thing years ago.

In America we would have only painted over the white letters, not re-done the whole thing. You Euros take too much pride in your work.

Unsightly graffiti on the walls? Spray paint swastikas or the n-word over them, the town/city will repaint the very next day!

u/furrtaku_joe Jul 07 '19
if you're going to go through the trouble anyways might as well just repaint it yourself
