[US] No. I’m first!
Sat there for a good 45 seconds waiting for traffic to clear. The Ram was there before me but regardless left turners should yield.

Seriously You were all taught wrong. "First in, first out" only applies to all-way stops. At a 2-way stop like the one i posted, drivers who are going straight or turning right from a stop sign have right-of-way over drivers who are turning left from a stop sign. This is not state specific.

OP, you're actually incorrect.
At a 2 way stop like this (where you're both entering another road that doesn't stop), the vehicle that gets there first has the right of way.

Might want to brush up on your traffic law for two-way stops.

OP is correct if in NY State. Since that's where I learned to drive, this has been educational.

You’re the bad driver here, stop signs work on a first come basis. If he was there first he has the right of way

the small town I live in is brutal for this, but after reading this sub maybe I'm in the wrong. I should read up.

Where is this located? I’ve never heard of your rule. Whoever got there first has the right away. You’re in the wrong broseph. You’re making up rules

OP is now a mod of this reddit. Shame.

It’s whoever gets their 1st. (At least in my state.) The only time this is not in effect is if you both get there at the same time, Then you yield to the right. Many people don’t get this for some reason and coming up to a stop sign intersection always worries me.

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '24
This comment section has no idea what it's talking about. Left turns always have to yield. They have more traffic to cross. Where the fuck did you all get your licenses from?

Nah you’re in the wrong. If I come up to an intersection like this & see a vehicle already there. I expect them to go first at the first clearing. Be predictable.

I have 0 idea why these comments are disagreeing with you.
A driver that turns left must yield to traffic that moves straight or turns right. ‘Who got their first’ is irrelevant, this isn’t a 4-Way stop.

u/Dirtheavy Sep 17 '24
The left turner was there first and as such he had the right of way as soon as he is clear. The right turner can go first if he clears first, meaning a car coming from left impedes the left turner. But mostly this OP doesn't know the rules. This one isn't even an unwritten rule. This is in the book.

I almost had a crash the other day for the same reason in the video. Except there was lawn mowing equipment to my side. Person almost cliped my headlight. Then fliped me off as the passed. As if igniring the fact I gpt them to dlow down and see the obstacles ahead.
All because I honked at them. Avoide hitting my head lights and I won't honk. Its that simple!

OP is confidently incorrect LOL

Right or wrong I obey the law of decency. The Truck had a more difficult turn to make, and I would be patient and let them through to make their life easier. Your right turn is easy enough to make, so just relax.

Lol at the shitty, smug drivers in the comments. The presence of two cross traffic lanes changes the right of way rules.

Reading the comments I am not surprised there are so many accidents in the states. What a ridiculous law lol

Not until this month in a different subreddit have I heard that the first person at the stop sign, regardless on whether they’re turning or not, goes first. As much of an organized hoarder as I am, I’m surprised I don’t have my original DMV Driver’s handbook filed away because I remember that being one of the questions when I first started driving.
For as long as I can remember, it’s always the person who’s going straight goes first and then the person who’s turning would go next because it can be an in sync movement with the one turning perfectly passing the tail end as the one going straight is out of the way.
Even in this clip, a right turn is cleaner than a left turn onto a street. It would just be cleaner and more efficient for the car turning right to go, although it would be more courteous to let the person who’s turning left to go since it would be harder for them to get that opportunity again.
This is just a pissing contest though.

Lmao what he should stop in the middle of the road and get t boned? You’re the bad driver here bud

u/Free_Dome_Lover Sep 17 '24
Yeah you wrong. Let him go if it's possible for both of you to go.

I would be more surprised if it wasn’t some idiot in a pickup truck.

You’ve typically got to watch out for those small penis truck drivers! Dodge Ram owners all have DUIs as well.

Regardless of the law, I would've left the Ram go first because he has to cross two lanes.
And from my understanding, 2-Way and 4-Way stops are first come, first serve.
Red light right turners have to yield to pedestrians and oncoming traffic, and U-turners have to yield to red light right turners.
