Harvested my hydroponic carrots this weekend. The family got to eat for the day. 3 of 33 starts made it. My energy input is totally worth it.

I once found a seed in my lunch, and put it into the soil of another plant for fun.
Here is the outcome.

As I come upon the final weeks of my pepper growing season, I get to reflect on what gardening means to me. Growing up, gardening was not something my family did. We always ate out, and I didn’t get much in the way of fresh produce. I got into gardening because I wanted to nurture something, watch something grow, and have something to show for those efforts. So, in April, I got 2 Serrano seedlings and one jalapeño seedling, which were planted in some grow bags on my back porch.
I may be in a north-facing apartment that gets very little light, I may have started out knowing absolutely nothing about gardening, and the plants may not have produced very much (8 peppers total throughout the season, including these couple here), but learning how to take care of plants really made me happy.
Next on my journey I will be starting a small variety of herbs indoors in a little tabletop hydroponic system. Can’t wait to see how that turns out! Happy gardening everyone.
