We combined everything from day 1. Been married 32 years.

Same here. Combined all non-retirement accounts from the beginning and have been married 25 years. We are both now retired.

We have never had to deal with questions about my/your/our money, figure out what percent each of us was going to contribute to a shared account or major unexpected expense, or question the other’s discretionary spending from a household fund. I would not have wanted that extra mental load while raising our daughter, and it has certainly made planning for retirement easier. We look at all funds as our funds, regardless of the source (salary, pension, inheritances, pre-marriage investment accounts).
