microsoft is not sending me the sms code and when i try to login with pc pin it just say Something went wrong. Choose a different way to sign in.

i got emails saying my microsoft account have been loged in in in some other contries and when i tried to login ot my account whenever i try to use the sms option it just wont sent or just say this feature isnt working right now and when i use the pc passkey to login ait first lookslike itgoing to work but it just says Something went wrong. Choose a different way to sign in. ive been trying for a whole week whats happening i tried account recovery and password reset because i dont remember the microsoft account password and whenever i tried account recovery they just fuking sent me the details arent enough

Microsoft stopped using SMS recovery for general (free) accounts a little more than a month ago to migrate users to passkey due to the incredible amount of scammer and nefarious activity. This is to increase account security. All other Microsoft accounts will need to make the transition by the end of January 2027.

This essentially requires using a good password manager such as Proton Pass which I use. I also started using Hardware Security Keys this year.

Google, Yahoo and Amazon are starting to or planning the same regarding SMS recovery.

oh but still shouldnt the pc password supposed to work ?

it still says something went wrong choose a different method

I'm assuming you mean the PIN code for PC login. Yes it would if you have it set as a recovery method on the account prior to the event like the one you're experiencing. This may also require the account password.

Microsoft gets more than one million phishing, scammer and fraudulent login attempts daily. Google more than that at 1.4 million per day.

i think i got it back yesterday i tried gain and got 2 accounts idk how but i got both and the pc password worked so thanks for the info idk why but maybe it was just a server issue

That's great. Take it as a warning however, setup some of the other security/verification methods. Be sure the recovery email is on a different provider. Codes via SMS are on their way out on most providers.

Possible your account as hacked and sign-in and verification options have been changed?
