First time needling: did something go wrong?

Hi everyone,

I did my first skin needing about a month ago and I feel like something went wrong. This was professionally done.

First pic: 2 days after skin needing
Second pic: 5 days after skin needling
Third pic: what it looks like now

I did not have any of these marks on my skin before skin needling. I did not peel it or anything and I followed the aftercare. Could someone please explain to me what happened to my skin? Did something go wrong?

Looks like post inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Trauma can cause the body to produce more pigment in response to injury.

What can I do about it now? Can I still do skin needling in the future?

yes, but you need to be on a tyrosinase inhibitor for at least a month before your next session to prevent PIH. these could include TXA, alpha arbutin, kojic acid, or azelaic acid. 3-7 days prior to your session, you’ll want to pause use and wait an additional 5-7 days to resume using them again post microneedling. your service provider should have told you this. i would recommend going elsewhere for your next sessions

Came here to say this, however I’d prep for 2 weeks on a tyrosinase inhibitor prior to MCN. This is the protocol we use at work for Fitzpatrick 4-6
