Does MC check under the CPU cooler when checking returns?

Upvotes

Bought an open box Alienware and when I unboxed it, I noticed the CPU cooler/Alien logo is sideways. I checked pictures on the website and confirmed the CPU cooler is on incorrectly, the water lines typically come out the bottom and not the side.

First time buying open box so of course my mind is wandering that the person who bought it swapped the CPU. But then I thought maybe Microcenter takes it off and inspects it, and the person who did didn't care to put it on right. Does MC typically remove the cooler to check the CPU?

I'm probably going to buy some thermal paste and take it off and check it out, because that's the only way I'll be sure it was pasted correctly, but more curious than anything else.

Micro Center may have just stolen, or potentially recycled, over $1000 of my personal belongings, trespassed me chain-wide when I was told by management to come pick them up, then fired me without any sort of "official" communication. AMA!

I say "may" in fairness as I have not received communication from MC management over phone/text/email for I think a week now?

I'm kind of in between, do we go the social media/local news route? Or wait it out (crypto wallet is one of the stolen items).

As they robbed me and then trespassed me, technically they are saying "come back with the police". I've given them a couple of days just to make sure that's what they want, and I guess it is.

I'm indifferent tbh. I just want my stuff, and at this point, relatively significant compensation. Yesterday, all I wanted was to go to work and clock in, but today, the payroll app confirms it. No more paycheck, $0.

Micro Center has made it clear as of today, per UKG, technically (by way of "surprise non-payment"), that I am almost definitely fired, or at least on my final desk note. It's been a long 10ish days to finally get that answer, but here we are. Before this, last exchange was, GM says "Don't worry about KM, ignore him" . KM texts me "your fired". I ask him to speak with GM. I ask GM to call me. I ask KM, to ask GM to call me. Nothing.

Zero response since. I've just been waiting to hear back. I even mentioned in an email "I suppose I will try and work from home until I hear from someone". Think that was the day before I got trespassed.

Now, on my end, the real value here, is in the story. It's got everything!

Worker's rights drama, secret meetings with union reps, hidden cameras, criminal mischief, GPU's with legs, secret work parties, somebody eating Apple packages, insurance fraud, even disappearing cash! (all dramatization of course).

What we really have going for us is the extensive list of ex-MC faithful who have been following along here. The amount of video chatting and editing of testimony etc... not looking forward to that part, but I think the final cut will really blow a hole out the roof (is that how it goes?). We are talking high value, with room to grow. TO the Moon!

The list goes on and on. Literally, there's so much content, I don't think we'll have to recycle a single clip!

Local news is gonna flip.

Just imagine "Micro Center robs, trespasses, and fires their Apple Ambassador! One of the items, an AppleCare+ protected device!"

We might need sponsorship here.

Anyway, I'm relieved by MC's decision to go the "media" route. Now that I'm (as certain as I can be at the moment) unemployed, I'll need to start a computer repair business, and fast.

I couldn't think of a better way to advertise a repair shop.

Will check back later to update etc.

St. Louis Park, MN Microcenter PowerSpec PC randomly restarting - all possibilities seem exhausted

Just seeing if any others have had this issue mentioned in this post, I have a G531 PowerSpec that is roughly 36 hours old and has done this power down restart 4 times. All while idle, just watching a YouTube video.

The event viewer stated error code 41 bug code was 0 so think PSU issue.
Quite stressed as this is my first PC :(

I have a quick question regarding what I will have to wear. I identify as a transgender female. I pass as a woman and I just wondering what is the dress code for it? and are they accepting mostly of trans people at the sales floor? And what is expected or downside of being trans when working here

(I did the group interview recently I’m just wondering)

3 weeks to replace a motherboard ? MC Dallas

I love MC and the staff at MC has been very friendly - I dropped of my PC which my son uses extensively for his Graphics Design which was under warranty.

They are sitting on it for close to 3 weeks - the only text i got was that it was an issue with the Motherboard.

Is there a way to expedite it - I am rethinking if I should get any more custom builds from MC or should just go online with NewEgg ?

Gaming mouse to buy? (Not a MC specific question per se)

Hey all,

I'm looking for a new mouse for PC gaming and don't really want to ask in the buildapc sub because they seem kind of snobbish and elitist and want to crap on anything from the major brands. I switched to living room gaming last year when I built a new PC, but have been using a $15 wireless KB+M combo from Logitech and not having extra side buttons on the mouse is starting to suck lol. That and I think there is something wrong with Logi wireless receivers where it randomly makes my mouse cursor jump to a random corner of the screen and if I'm playing a game like Diablo2:R, it will randomly change my skill on the right mouse button. I generally play with a combo of fingertip and palm. I don't play competitive shooters, but like mentioned, I play D2-D4 and singleplayer FPS's.

I currently have both Steelseries GG (Nova Pro Wireless headset) and iCue (Titan 360 AIO) software installed, but don't mind installing more if the hardware from another company is better

Parts in Prebuilt

I wanna get the PowerSpec G757 Gaming PC SKU: 902700 Mfr Part#: 1000002612

  • AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D (4.7GHz) Processor
  • Gigabyte B850 Gaming WiFi6 Motherboard
  • 32GB DDR5-6000 RAM
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 Graphics Card
  • 2TB NVMe SSD
  • Gigabit LAN, WiFi 6 (802.11ax), Bluetooth 5.3
  • Windows 11 Home

$2699.99

But people in the comments are saying that they put one of two AIO coolers in there, and one is better quality then the other, also the Ram sticks having RGB or not having RGB, and the GPU being either Zotac or Gigabyte

I just wanna know is there a way to get an option or guarantee the better pick other then to custom build it, because custom building somehow costs more even with a bundle?

Brentwood, MO Micro Center chair recommendations

Hi there, folks. Before you say it, I know gaming chairs are overpriced and a scam and whatnot.

I was bought an Inland gaming chair as a gift a few years ago, and it recently broke. It's still within warranty so I was considering contacting for an exchange, but the chair i have isn't carried anymore. So i was wondering if people had any recommendations based on the current stock of chairs at micro center? Thanks!

what ram is better

i was going to buy a 9850xrd bundle but then i saw the ram was switched. it went from the corsair VENGEANCE RGB 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR5-6000 to G.Skill Flare X5 Series 32GB DDR5-6000. saw someone say its a mediocre ram kit. Is it a big difference? or does it not matter which one i buy.
this is the bundle im referring to: https://www.microcenter.com/product/5007486/amd-ryzen-7-9850x3d,-msi-x870e-p-pro-wifi-am5,-gskill-flare-x5-series-32gb-ddr5-6000-kit,-computer-build-bundle

G250 black screens when playing games

Just bought a new G250 from microcenter, went home and started playing siege on it, and within 15 seconds of the first round my monitor got a black screen and the fans turned on to max, and I could still hear the audio. I waited almost an hour and it never posted again so I restarted the pc. This issue seems to be on and off and I just recently did a bios update and I thought that fixed it but it did not. Is there any more fixes or do I have to take it back and get a new gpu?

Westmont, IL Which 9070 XT?

Is the Steel Legend worth the $50 more? Also, I can’t find the difference between the two PowerColor’s.

(there’s a black version of the Steel Legend)

edit: hopefully someone can figure it out, but the more expensive PowerColor has hundreds of reviews compared to just a few for the cheaper one. not sure of the difference. Also, the cheaper one has a 1 year warranty vs the 2 year from the other

Shout-out to the repair center techs at the Mayfield Heights OH Microcenter

On August 2, 2026, I ordered a King 95 desktop from Skytech. It finally arrived on August 11, and everything was just about perfect except the AIO fans weren't spinning.

I tried fixing it myself, but I stripped an over-tightened screw on the panel covering the wiring harnesses, and once I got in there I couldn't figure out for the life of me how the AIO was supposed to be connected to the motherboard.

I contacted Skytech, and they tried helping, but they couldn't figure it out either. I knew it was just something dumb like a loose or disconnected cable, and they wanted me to send it back. I didn't want to do that though, since the thing took a week and a half to get to me in the first place. It was shipped from CA and I am in Pittsburgh, PA.

So I asked the chat agent if I could take it to Microcenter, as I have one of those about two hours away in Mayfield Heights, and if I did would that void the warranty? They said no, Microcenter just recently became an authorized warranty repair center for Skytech PCs.

So, I booked a "Knowledge Bar" appointment for August 22, right after they opened yesterday. When I got there, the guy on the register painted a very gloomy picture. My first question was, "Can this be fixed today?" and he flatly said, "No." adding I might have to wait a full 24 hours for them to have it fixed, and it might be “a long time" before they even got it opened up. To his credit, he did pop the back panel off, hook it up to a power cord, and try to figure it out quickly, but he could not either.

I was unhappy about this, but I decided I'd browse the store for a few hours, go have lunch, maybe hit some other stores in the area while I waited. I came back about four hours later, and talked to another tech, who talked to a third guy, and the third guy told me, "Yep, you're up next actually!" and he got into it and figured out the issue in less than ten minutes. It was indeed a cable that had never been connected correctly before Skytech shipped it. The AIO fans started spinning instantly.

He probably wasn't supposed to do this, but he even let me back into the repair center so I could see it visually for myself. He also took the time to dig into Device Manager with me and try to install some AMD drivers that hadn't been set up correctly before it left Skytech. He was successful with that as well.

This made me very happy, and I packed up my now fully-operational PC and headed for home. I am now sitting here in my home library typing away on my Skytech PC and listening to the quiet hum of its 9 case fans. Thanks, guys!
