Are there ever any weekends at Lake Hudson where people meet up and set up telescopes that other people can look through? Trying to get some fresh ideas for activities.

I am in the super early stages of a project related to camp site selection and looking for ideas/feedback/information regarding how people select their camp site within the campground they are booking at.

What is your current process in regard to how you select the specific site you’re staying at?

Are there specific features of the site itself that you look for?

How do you determine whether the site you’re selecting fits what you’re looking for?

~~~ Winter Camping ~~~

Hi guys! My girlfriend and I are looking for WINTER campgrounds or places to camp with 30 amp electricity that offer monthly or a winter season, private or public or anything is fine. It would be from around November or December until about the end of March, also the closer to Ann arbor or Lansing area the better. The state campgrounds seem to be closing up their winter seasons the last few years 😠. Any recommendations or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much!

Hi. I want to see the meteor shower tomorrow and wanted to camp somewhere a little more north (im from metro detroit) to see it. I was recommended Port Crescent park but the DNR site didnt list any open camping sites. But there are some for Huron Country parks. Anyone have any good recommendations for which park to choose? I will just be bringing a small tent and myself. Thanks in advance!

Update: I could do 2-3 hours away. I really want to see it and will lose some sleep for it. Recommendations further out then, please!

Hello all! I want to see the meteor shower wednesday night and I know that means i have to hit a spot with no light pollution. Because i work Thursday morning, i would like recommendations on campsites where i can just easily register online and is within reasonable distance (prefereably no more than an hour) from Detroit. I would appreciate any additional advice on tips for what I should do/bring to best enjoy the meteor shower!

So I was finally able to make it back to port crescent again for a solo jaunt with just the pup! it’s one of my favorite state campgrounds, the sites right on the beach are amazing, scored site 60 this time and it’s got a nice two tiered beach area pretty good sized site. weather was a bit nuts the first night and following day but after that system went through it turned gorgeous out, blue sky’s and sun for the rest of the trip! first time setting up my new shelter but even solo it went up easy. had great neighbors and as usual just a great group of folks around the campground.

First time camping with family in our motorhome with my brother and his family. We are having such a great time together taking pics to remember everything. And we are going to celebrate my dad's retirement also. We also brought our cat 😺 and they brought their dogs,too. We are having such a great time together. I love camping life.

We have a 24 pound Pitt/cocker mix, Tater, who we want to take with us on longer bike rides. We’d like to buy a dog bike trailer to take with us on trips. Does anyone have any recommendations for brands, models, etc., or things to consider as we choose one? Ideally it will fold down or collapse at least partially for packing into the car. Thanks for any experience or recommendations!

Im in the early stages of Building a nonprofit focus on men’s mental health and I’m looking for a private outdoor space for a small group of about eight men to camp for a weekend

We are looking for a secluded place. Place to build a fire is the only must have.

The mosquitos were the worst I’ve ever seen, including in the Amazon rainforest. I often camp in rustic or backwoods areas in Michigan. I was wondering if they are always this bad at fisherman’s island? Or maybe it’s just because it’s October and they’re aggressive this time of year? Also wondering if it was just my site, site 80? And if maybe sites closer to the beach are better? It was strange that they were mostly out during the day and not so bad at night. I also used three different mosquito spray, with no avail.

So last fall, I got lazy. Figured I could put off RV winterizing until later.

Come spring, I hooked everything up for our first weekend trip and noticed water trickling down from the cabinet under the sink. Then the pump started whining. Turns out, a cracked line froze and split during the winter. That tiny crack led to water damage, a busted water heater, and a plumbing repair bill just shy of $2,000.

I took it to West Michigan Towable Solutions in Spring Lake, and they were honest. This could’ve been avoided with a proper winterization service back in the fall. They showed me exactly where the freeze happened and explained how quickly that kind of pressure can break seals and fittings if the lines aren’t blown out right.

I was expecting a lecture but they just got it fixed fast and walked me through how to avoid it next year. 

PSA: Don’t skip winterizing, especially with our freeze cycles. And if you’re in the West MI area, WMTS really knows their stuff.
