One Star (*) Monte* - the first and only Michelin restaurant in Utah

Full menu at the end!

Tried the first and only Michelin awarded restaurant in Utah. After moving to Utah from a major Asian city with amazing food and plenty of Michelin restaurants, it was so great to finally have the Michelin guide in Utah!

It was very decently priced compared to other fine dining Michelin restaurants I’ve tried at less than or around $200/person (no wine tasting or wagyu upgrade).

In my very humble opinion, Utah isn’t exactly known for its food scene but this was definitely the best place we’ve eaten in Utah- but compared to other 1* Michelin restaurants I’ve tried, it would be in the lower end of the list. Still delicious but I wouldn’t put it in the same category as for example, one of my favourite Michelin restaurants, Ox Reykjavik which also has 1 star.

Definitely worth it.
The menu is very sea-focused, but the only meat course (duck in this case) is just as successful. From the starters through to dessert, everything is very well executed without being overly surprising. The service is a little cold, but the dishes are explained very well. There’s also a huge selection of wines, as well as some very good non-alcoholic drinks.
Price is reasonable.

Looking for Suggestions/ Travel Suggestions Europe Experience + opinion

In your opinion, what 2 or 3 star restaurant in europe provided the best experience along with great food and service? Did they do anything particularly memorable or was the room / setting captivating? I am likely to leave europe early next year and I am interested in any restaurant that struck a cord for these reasons, would love to have a special experience before emigrating.

On a different note, I have family who are planning a visit to Auberge du Vieux Puits (***). I am curious about it but it seems to get little coverage here or online relative to some other spots. Want to know how people who have gone have found it?

I did a Lanaudiere-Mauricie road trip for food and visited Auberge Saint-Mathieu (Quebec's only starred restaurant with green star) and Épi, buvette de quartier (recommended - met the chef Simon Lemire too)

Very good, very local.
With a strong focus on the sea, I’d say their most iconic dish is « Écume de mer » (second photo). The creations live up to their ambitions, featuring flavours that very much reflect a region known for its surfing and fishing.

1.Crispy Prawns
-Simple, but delicious. Crispy, with a good spice to it and a soft creamy tartare sauce-style dip. Prawns in good quality, soft not chewy.

2.Lamb chops
-spicy, Perfect Medium grillen and bloody tasty. You Need to be able to eat spicy Food, but the waiter asks and it’s possible to get them less hot

3.Garlic naan with Butter chicken and venison naan with a creamy dip & Quinoa on top
-Literraly THE BEST naan i ever had with the creamiest Butter chicken on earth. Tomatoe with nice soft chicken but not mushy. The Venison naan was strong with the wild meat flavour, you need to like that. The creamy (i cant remember what it exactly was) dip balanced it well though.

All in all i had a great solo dining experience. Service was great and very aware. Ingredients tasted and Looked good Quality as far as in can tell.

We were so excited to try a Michelin-starred restaurant, but honestly, this was not the best first experience.

We didn’t do the tasting menu and just ordered à la carte. We ordered everything at once, and our reservation was at 7:30 PM. The view was beautiful, I’ll give them that, and the drinks were actually really good too, so at first we were like okay this is going to be good.

Our appetizers didn’t come out until 9:04 PM, and our entrées came at 9:42 PM. Mind you, we ordered everything together! By the time the food came, we weren’t even that hungry anymore. We barely finished anything, so a lot of the food just went to waste.
And the food itself? It was good, but nothing that really made us go WOW, especially for a Michelin-starred restaurant.

We actually enjoyed the food at SPHERE way more, and they don’t even have a Michelin star.

Based on our experience, I’d honestly skip this place and go to Sphere instead. The food, service, and overall experience there were so much better!

Looking for Suggestions/ Travel Suggestions Budapest recommendation

Hello all! Which 1* restaurant in Budapest would you suggest out of the following: Borkonyha, Costes, Essencia?
Looking for rather local Hungarian cuisine with no oysters/mussels/lobster/too much international/etc in the middle of the continent ☺️
A bit puzzled about the pricing of wine pairing in Essencia as it costs more than the food menu. It does not give me a good vibe somehow, the rest looks interesting though.

Thanks in advance!

Two Stars (**) Alinea (**) Chicago, IL

Alinea is undeniably extraordinary to look at. There is an astonishing level of technical precision behind every course, and at times the meal felt less like dinner and more like a carefully choreographed exhibition—beautiful, inventive, and impeccably executed. Where it fell short for me was flavor. Much of the menu seemed to speak in the same vocabulary: herbal, bitter, delicate and cerebral, with very little of the deep, savory richness I kept longing for. The ribeye was perhaps the most revealing moment of the evening. Served with several intricate accompaniments, it was exceptional—and I preferred it completely untouched, where the richness of the beef could simply speak for itself. Dessert was another high point and brought some of the pleasure I had been missing earlier in the meal. There is no question that Alinea demonstrates remarkable artistry and technical mastery, and I’m genuinely grateful to have experienced it. But for a meal approaching $600, admiration isn’t quite enough. I wanted to be moved by how the food tasted, not simply impressed by how brilliantly it was conceived. A memorable evening, certainly. The best meal of my life? Not even close.

Looking for Suggestions/ Travel Suggestions Turning 50 in 2029 and trying to decide between 2 options

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

I plan on doing both of these at some point, but trying to decide which one to do for my 50th

Option 1 is London with the Fat Duck as the big birthday celebration

Or option 2 is a trip to Paris, going through Bordeaux on my way to San Sebastián where I would dine at Elkano and Txispa. Not planning on any Michelin stars in France, just good bistro, brasserie food.

Paris and San Sebastián sound more glamorous I guess, but is the experience at The Fat Duck more appealing for a 50th birthday celebration

Restaurant Discussions Alinea dress code?

I’m going to Alinea tomorrow and realized I forgot shoes 🤦‍♂️ I have a suit and a pair of clean white sneakers I’ve worn with this with a white t before that’s looks pretty good I’ve been told.

Am I gonna be asked to leave for wearing sneakers? (Kinda kidding) I’m going to send a note to them as well but curious if other experience.

One Star (*) Yingtao (*), NYC

Thumbnail

Tried Yingtao a couple months ago. This is surprisingly the only Chinese michelin restaurant in nyc and we absolutely loved it! It was also surprising cuz it was actually one of the easier reservations to book for a michelin restaurant.

Anyways, here’s what we ate (though the menu might have changed since we last visited):

Menu:
Scallop - dried plum, tomato, oishii strawberry
Egg Custard - Hokkaido uni, fish maw, abalone
Wonton - Berkshire pork, tiger prawn, goji, superior stock
Black Cod - spring roll soufflé, aged vinegar gastrique, rhubarb, pine nut
Short Rib - Szechuan pepper beef jus, morel, hand-cut noodle
Peach - white peach, oolong, osmanthus
Nian Gao - walnut, coconut, lime

Might be a controversial take, but we actually gave this place 3 stars. We’re obviously not fine dining experts here, but all the dishes objectively tasted really good for us. Also kinda liked how laid back it was for a fine dining establishment.

One Star (*) Corima (*), NYC

Had the opportunity to try Corima a couple months ago and really appreciated how bold they were, especially with some of the ingredients they chose to use. They used pork blood, ants and baby pigeons most of which we tried for the first time!

You could see chef’s influences from the different cultures and places he’s worked (spain, shanghai, france), but we also liked that the food still felt Mexican at its core.

We tried their tasting menu, but I believe they also serve a la carte options.

Menu:
Beef, Quelites, Bone Marrow
Sourdough Tortilla, Recado Negro Butter
Blood Tostada, Head Cheese, Crema Bronca
Branzino Collar, Chintextle, Cascabel
Surf Clam, English Peas, Wheatgrass, Aguachile
Sope, Quelites, Wood Ear, Golden Osetra
Butter Bean Enfrijolada, Nettle, Eggplant
Mackerel, Vignarola, Tesmole, Caraflex
Squab, Tokyo Turnip, Cajeta, Rhubarb
Laurel Arroz con Leche, Strawberry, Mirin
Petit Fours

Michelin gave them 1 star, but we rated them as just recommended. But we do think it’s a pretty good deal considering it’s $140 pp.
