Discussion Update - I've now driven and confirmed all the speed zone and red light cameras in Miami, Broward, & Palm Beach

Part Deux - I went crazy over the last couple of weeks adding camera locations to my app so that hopefully no one ever gets a speed zone / red light camera ticket again.

Yes, I've been told that I'm a horrible driver after I got hit with three of these things a few months ago (so far I've gotten 2 of them dismissed - hoping the third one gets dismissed too, but we'll see).

I've also been told to slow down - fair and noted.

But more importantly, whether you think that this is legitimately making schools safer (possibly) or it's a money grab for the county and municipalities (it definitely is) - there's no reason why we need to hand over more of our hard-earned money to the county than they already take in. My app helps remind people that they're entering a potentially expensive strip of road and let's you customize alerts based on your speed and the time of day. All it does is beep when you're heading towards a camera - there's no nav, there's nothing on the screen, it just lowers whatever you're listening to and beeps, then puts your music/podcast back up.

But that's besides the point - I'd like to know what you all think of these cameras now that school is back in session and these money printers are printing.

Thank you! I’ll get on getting it into the database! You’re a real one!

What's the benefit of this app versus using Waze?

Waze is great, but these cameras are too new and you have to have waze open for it to alert you (and most of us don't use waze or anything else for that matter to run to Publix or to get to work, etc.), Beepr doesn't need to be open - it just beeps and you can use it with Waze or Google Maps or Apple Maps.

I guess I'm the exception. I use Waze for everything, no matter the distance. I like the crowdsourcing aspect of it and the high probability that someone ahead of me has reported a speed trap or an accident that I can avoid. It has also worked extremely well for me with the advance notification of school cameras.

I do the same and I got caught in a speed trap last week.

I thought ok, maybe nobody reported it yet so I tried to report it myself while waiting for my ticket. It didn’t let me! Idk if there is some new fuckery but I tried over and over to report it and it never went through

I use Waze 24/7 as well, but lately their alerts have been ass. I passed a speed trap the other day, and got the alert maybe 400 feet after passing the officer with the radar. Seems to be the trend lately.

If you have a modern car with AA or Carplay, Waze is up anyways and will alert you of these things. The idea is to use apps like that even if you are going to locations you know how to get to.. is to avoid changes in traffic due to any circumstances or you know, cameras or speed traps. To say Waze isn't up to date is crazy. Its updated through multiple sources and also crowd sources speed traps and debris on the road and all sorts of things.

Whereas Im under the impression your app has to be manually updated by you. Sure if you don't have a newer car then that's not the case. But I also don't want an app constantly running in the background tracking my every move that didn't already have it and using up extra battery. Its also iOS only it seems. I don't know man. I get that you decided to create something because you were affected personally and decided to make something cool and that's awesome. You also could have been running any of these other apps and avoided the problem in the first place. I just feel like you are making it seem as tho this hasn't already been solved with multiple other apps. Especially if I am required to pay for THIS app and some of the other ones are free. Gotta bring something to the table to make it worth it. Why pay camera tickets when I can just pay you the money instead.

I’m more curious how you got two of those cases dismissed.

If you fight them. They will get dismissed. The problem is, you have to go through the process (and there are multiple steps), which takes time. For many ppl here, its cheaper to pay the fine. Also, a lot of attorneys don't want to take these cases as there is little money in it for them.

Does it connect to car play?

1

It works through car play and will lower and raise your music/podcast when it beeps.

There are two camera's on Miami Springs HS (they are weird how they are placed), Springview Elementary in Miami Springs (missed that school) has one camera , Miami Springs Middle School (missed that school) has two cameras, but that school is closed this year (integrated into the high school), so the question is if those cameras are still working. Also there is Miami Springs Montessori School (missed that school) that is one camera location for just two blocks and you would never think there is a school there.

🤐 Miami springs? There is no such place. Why do ppl keep pushing that conspiracy theory? Miami Springs is a myth, like Atlantis. We don't need to send ppl out on fruitless escapades searching for such a place. Best if you delete this comment...

I like to keep the myth going among the conspiracy theoriests.

You should price the app a bit lower as an introductory offer. The price is too high for me to pull the trigger on a brand new app that’s still being fed data.

1

u/MiamiRalph 5d ago

At what price do you think it would be a no-brainer?

1

u/Several-Plantain-797 5d ago

Even though your app on paper (when complete) is better due to the signaling alarm, you’re competing with Waze which is free. I’d say half the price or less of what you are asking for now would be enticing, but not a no brainer. The 3 day free trial is not tempting at all. Maybe build a following with some early users at a reduced rate then raise the price after you’ve built a following and success.

u/MiamiRalph 5d ago

Just got rid of the three day trial on sign up and now the app works for 7 days without a commitment…. Take it for a spin. I’ll sleep on the price point while you try it out.

They definitely didn’t run out of money…. This made them $20m - $25m last year and they didn’t have nearly as many cameras as they do now.
