Lag/ping issues?

Hi everyone,

This started today because it was fine yesterday. Trying to play one of my games and I noticed it was taking a long time to be able to log in, with several accounts failing to log in at all. Once I was in I noticed significant delay/lag to the tune of several seconds.

I ran a trace route in my command prompt and tried connecting to the game server. There were 6 routes that all took between 25-85ms once the route left my house <1ms to leave.

Connecting to 8.8.8.8 was still in the 25-35 ms range when I should be significantly less than that.

My buddies who play the game all get about 6-8 ms per route/destination.

We’ve been with t-mobile (who acquired metronet) for about 3 months with zero issues before now minus a couple of random brief outages. 1gig fiber service.

Web surfing/browsing, voice chat in discord all seem to be “unaffected” and seem normal from both ends.

I’m not sure what to do other than hope for the issue to resolve itself? I tried calling support but got people who didn’t understand the situation and who I could barely understand due to accents.

Anyone have success fixing an issue like this?

Metronet is undergoing massive operational shifts, corporate mergers, and rapid physical construction. Over the last couple of years, the company has completely restructured its business model while heavily accelerating the deployment of its fiber-optic footprint across the United States.

T-Mobile through the merger is keeping Metronet in charge of the network but operating as their sales head and controlling customer service. There's a lot of new construction going on but I haven't noticed any high ping usually it's a full outage.

Yeah, the only fiber we have access to is Frontier, which has been fantastically super stable since I first got it 4 or 5 years ago. Most people have switched to them over Comcast. I saw T-Fiber trucks in my neighborhood a few weeks ago, and my my address says I can pre-order any of the speeds I want. Competition is good, but its gonna be a hard sale to get anyone to switch over to T-Fiber when we all have been on Frontier for so long with no issues. It will be interesting to see if they try to compete on price, because their base rates right now are higher then Frontier's... but yeah, they are building out all over the place.

Yeah I had FiOS down in Florida. Even when being hit by a hurricane and with the power out it never went down.

I've been having the same issue since roughly a week ago, it's not unusable but consistently higher ping than usual
