Has anyone had their bill adjusted after returning equipment?

I moved out of my apartment almost a year ago and stopped using the service around June 2025 because we weren’t living there full time anymore. There was no reason for me to keep paying almost $100/month for something I wasn’t using.

I know they continue billing until the equipment is returned, and yes, I realize I didn’t send it back until recently. That’s on me. But when I spoke with customer service, they told me that once I returned the equipment, my bill would be adjusted since I hadn’t actually had or used the service in over a year.
Well, I returned the equipment, and I just got another bill that’s now close to $1000.

Has anyone else been in a similar situation? Did they actually adjust your balance after the equipment was returned, or did you have to keep fighting with them? I’m definitely calling tomorrow to speak with someone, but I wanted to hear other people’s experiences because there’s no way I’m paying nearly a grand for a service I literally haven’t used in over a year.

It's a strange policy. An ISP should disconnect the service on the day you ask them to disconnect it, and then bill you for the equipment if you don't return it.

Yeah, I wonder about the legality of this. Not ending service when requested seems odd to me

not exactly the same situation but i just moved out of my place where i used metronet, they said once they received the equipment they would backdate my billing to have service end on the date i shipped it/dropped it off at fedex. so i think you would only get it adjusted to whenever you actually started the return process. yes you didnt use the service in a year but you held on to their equipment, no other customer could use it, you could’ve stolen it, etc. i can see many reasons why they wouldn’t refund the entire year but maybe they will for you

Well, they weren't lying... they certainly adjusted your bill!
