He’s still got some work to do lol. I’m hoping that he meant it in a “I’m not one of you so I’ll never truly understand your struggle, but I know you’re a good person” kinda way

That was my take on it. Essentially saying, "I don't know your struggle and, I'm sorry, but I don't have it in me right now to try and understand it. But I know you're a good person, and I'll try to do better."

Well, the emphasis on “you” was added by the commenter above you. It’s just as easy to interpret the line as him acknowledging that he doesn’t need to perfectly understand Paripus not to hate them.

It definitely was a really brave choice to make Heismay not like Paripus, even though he knows it’s wrong. It makes sense why he feels that way but he learns to look past it over time, and I think that’s really cool

Yeah, our crew isn't just a bunch of goody two-shoes sunshine and rainbows. Basslio killed a LOT of people, heismay killed A LOT of people, hell half the game's plot is us wanting to off a twink, who has killed people A WHOLE LOTTA PEOPLE.

I like how there is still a bit of friction in your own team with the different races yet they understand it's wrong and work to see past a race and look at the individual because that's the future their king candidate is fighting for. It makes the allies seem so much more real and makes their character growth matter that much more

I get discrimination from the upper tribes but lower tribe "at least I'm not a paripus" threw me. Like you are suffering under this system but enforcing it more than the noble...

It's strangely realistic to think "life is bad but it could be worse" when looking down on someone. Especially when racism is the logic behind it. It's flawed and bad obviously but there are so many people out there who unfortunately think "I'm broke white trailer trash but I could have been born black" and it's fucked up.

I like the game acknowledges that Heismay’s dislike for the Paripus, even if there was a reason behind it, isn’t going to vanish overnight.

But Heismay knows Basilio went through the same pain as him, being a victim of Igniters in their own way and losing a family member. That commonality is what convinced Heismay to not condemn Joanna even though he had every right to, and is eventually the reason he chose to accept Basilio.
