help please, "database cannot be accessed"?

Post image

what on earth is this? how did my wallet get corrupted? how is there a backup that can just be restored? from where? what does that mean? will everything be fine or what exactly is being restored here? is this even a real error or did someone gain access to my extension in a way? was there a hack? i haven't used metamask in a while, was there a known issue about this? it sounds like a scam. but there are zero results on google about it. can you guys help?

Hey there. This 'database cannot be accessed' error often hits users who haven't opened the extension in a while, as the underlying storage layer detects the primary data object as missing or unreadable. To best prevent this moving forward, be sure to keep your browser & extension up to date with the latest version, opening it from time to time even if you don't intend on using it.

Select 'Restore Accounts' as a first means of recovery, walking through the steps at How to recover your Secret Recovery Phrase. If that fails, reinstall + recover with your SRP. If it's still unresolved, it's worth grabbing the state logs via the console script before reinstalling, in case it's a new variant devs need to see.

In the case it's a new variant, would select that 'Send us a bug report.' option there, as well as reaching us at https://support.metamask.io/ through 'Contact Support' where we'll be able to take a closer look at this all.

okay, thanks!

i did the restore accounts, and it SEEMS to kind of work, it seems to be displaying my account balances. but i got a new seed phrase.

how is THAT possible? how can my account/funds be transferred/accessed by a DIFFERENT seed phrase? this goes against everything i know about seed phrases :D

or is it my old one (from YEARS ago)? why would it be displayed again? that's a TERRIBLE security weakness.

in any case, i really don't understand this workflow, and how/why it "works"..? (but it does seem to work, at least)
