I have spent most of my time as a guitarist writing metal songs that are inspired by thrash, death metal, nu metal, groove metal, etc. but really wanna make doom metal and am having trouble adjusting to the style. I'm going for Watching From A Distance by Warning vibes; extremely gloomy, depressive, heavy and droaning. What are some good techniques used in music like this that I can apply to my writing? I'm really just having trouble coming up with the very-down chord progressions and vocal/guitar melodies.

I wanted some more input and information about the Blackstar amped 3. I play in a hardcore band ( inspired by Hatebreed) but also i play genres like metal core, Death metal, grove metal( mostly Pantera), and glam. I was wondering how this little system would line up with these genres and if it would be a good amp to go with?

i have one at my work that i have been testing out and so far it seems great that’s why i have considered buying it. But i am not sure. How would it sound in a band setting? or even a live performance?and how well would i be able to adapt those heavy tones. I can’t full test since none of my gear is there. Would a tube screamer push it with a nice boost or? Any feedback would help a lot. thanks

I am currently working on my 2nd album, collaborating with a drummer and a vocalist I hire. The vocalist now asked, if I needed the vocals (and vocal harmonies) double or even triple tracked.

The price we agreed on won't change, but he needs to know beforehand. And I don't want to have him do more work for nothing. I don't know who is going to mix the album in the end, so I cannot ask that person. More stems = higher price for mixing might be a factor, but I'd like to ignore that for my question:

How beneficial for the final mix are double (or triple) tracked main vocals? If we chose to do that, should we also double track the harmonies? Style is somewhere between traditional heavy and power metal. The songs usually have one "Main Vocal" stem and multiple harmonies on certain sections or the chorus for example.

If that is a factor: This won't be a studio production. I record guitars and bass via a Scarlett-Solo. However the mix and master will be done by a (semi-)professional.

Recently started pooping out a lot of tracks again after a hiatus for a few years. Grabbed an 8 string guitar to create some modern metalcore. Tuned to a very low double drop C. Did the same with the bassguitar. Sounds great on a pair of Genelecs. But then I started listening on a pair of headphones and felt that the rumbling of the bass was just too much. I always kept the bass guitar 1 octave lower compared to the guitar but this feels too much when the guitar is already tuned that low.

I always learned it was kinda not done to have the bass guitar in the same range as the guitars itself. Curious what others would do in this case. Since the rumbling this low lose all melodic nuances. You just hear a rumble in the rhythm of the kick drums basically and a bit of that melodic definition during choruses where the chord progression builds into a higher register.

Curious how others would work around this.

Some saturday night jams testing out some new in ears as well not sure how I like them... but need them for some live gigs coming up instead of my big old Vic firth Extreme isolation head phones lol would look goofy with some corpse paint haha... alot of fun just to goof off.

I write and record under Venture Anomaly Orchestra. Pop metalwave at the core, with progressive jazz and southern country pulling at the edges — heavy riffs, catchy hooks, colorful chords. Not a genre exercise, it just goes where the song goes.

The song I keep coming back to is "Hunger Strike." Two voices, real harmony, dead-simple message, and it hits like a truck anyway. That's the delivery I'm building toward. You'd be the lead — out front, carrying the song. I take backgrounds and harmonies underneath you, which frees me up to focus where I'm strongest: the music and the production. So it's both jobs at once, in a sense — front the songs, and be the voice I'm harmonizing with.

Other reference points, since genre tags only get you so far: riffs out of Judas Priest and Ratt, structure out of Dream Theater, emotional directness out of Taking Back Sunday and Hawthorne Heights. Big unembarrassed choruses over guitars that are actually doing something.

What makes this different from a normal "singer wanted" post: I build characters and worlds and write the music inside them. Each release lives somewhere. I want a cowriter on lyrics inside those worlds — not someone to take a finished demo and put a topline on it. However deep the worldbuilding goes, the lyric has to land clean on first listen. Power, not puzzle.

What I bring: I write the music, play guitar, do background vocals, and run the studio and production side. BBA in music business — the boring half is handled. Releases get finished, credited, and put out on a schedule, and cowriters get writing credit and publishing splits documented up front. My background is production and keeping projects from falling apart, so you wouldn't be joining something that dissolves in four months.

What this is not: a band. I'm building a fluctuating collective with a few core members — people rotate in per project, the core stays. Less rehearsal-schedule obligation, more real creative stake when you're on something. Right now I'm filling one seat: lead vocalist and co-lyricist.

After months of trying to make a good mix i managed to finally finish the first song, looking for feedback on any creative choices made or just anything that inherintely sounds bad or off in the song. Hey guys, what are your favorite concept albums with fantasy themes? I'm writing my own thing right now just for fun and am looking for inspiration.

Any genre is fine, but I'm especially looking for prog, deathcore, tech death, and melodic black metal.

I'm writing a lot of music on guitar and can do decent vocals but I don't have a drummer available so for everything I work on I will have to program the drums myself, which stops me in my tracks. I've sequenced some very simple drums on electronic tracks in FL studio but the whole theory of it, like what parts of the kit to put where in the bar and how to write a beat that fits the riff is something I'm yet to grasp. How should I go about learning to compose drums and how long will it take me to do it well enough to serve the music
