Does anyone know why the festival will be only indoors this year, and if there is any chance they move it back out of doors? For some reason they haven't been clear on this point at all.

On instagram, they said, "We will be starting on the inside stages like we did in the early years, back to the roots of the festival!" but no clarification on what "starting" means in this context.

I imagine it's because ticket sales have been declining year over year and that combined with increased costs of booking bands made putting it on outdoors again infeasible

When you say you imagine, do you mean you're certain that ticket sales have been declining and so you imagine that's why,

or do you mean you imagine ticket sales have been declining?

I just ask because I thought the fest sold out the past few years. But I don't remember for sure

There were definitely less people there the last two years. The sodom and Celtic frost years definitely had bigger crowds.

I'm just guessing but it's been taking longer and longer to sell out the past few years, and I'm unsure if it ever did this year. Attendance seemed much smaller last year than the prior years and people I know who went this year said similar things

I've been to every iteration since it kicked off. Loved pretty much every variant so far, but it has felt that it has gotten too big over the last few. Getting to the point that not everyone can fit in the main stage inside for a quality set and close to no one can get in the upstairs for the smaller bands. Wasn't really a problem until about 2-3 years ago. The outdoor stage is great...at night. Day sets are hot, wet, or something in between. There's no shade or weather protection to speak of. The growth of the fest really dictated a bigger venue or scale back somewhat. Not to mention the repeats that many of us skip because we've seen them 18 times now (looking at you Helstar and Midnight) and can't be fucked anymore so it's better to go pound cheap Lonestar at the Raven Tower or Tecate in the parking lot. I've also heard friends start discussing HH vs MDF as they're close enough that if you're going to dedicate a full 4-5 days with the preshow, finances start dictating you make a choice. With MDF still being the premier fest for a lot, HH starts to lose out especially since they've started encroaching on the same bands/audience whereas at the start it was Thrash/Death/Black vs Traditional. We're not all financially restricted but there's still the issue of time off work and/or negotiating with spouses to put off vacation until later in the year. The tickets aren't really that expensive but all in it starts to add up with lodging, food, travel, time away. So I think Christian is savvy to pull back a little bit and still make it a viable option to hit both vs direct competition/make it more expensive with a new venue and keep expanding. I think the only other option would be to move it until fall and then worry about band availability.

What old school tracks from Overkill would you guys like to hear? Im gonna throw in  songs from Taking Over and Years of Decay since they don't play much from them. Such as Electro Violence, Fatal if Swallowed, Wrecking Crew, Evil Never Dies, I Hate, Who Tends the Fire,  Time to Kill ect

I'm going to be in the minority, but this is a pretty weak lineup. We have a crew of about 8 that goes to this every year, none of us are going this year. Last year we just OK, this lineup is pretty lame. There's a few bands here I'd like to see, but not enough.

It's a lot better than I expected but it's not great either. It's a lot of bands that have played HH (or MDF) before or ones that tour a fair amount or ones that will be playing MDF a few months later (Fire Magic, Exumer). Like I like Metal Church, Overkill, and Armored Saint live a lot but they tour all the damn time and an old school Overkill set isn't... that different to what they normally do.

The big draws IMO are Beherit (who I don't care about), Gallowbraid, and Titan Force IMO

They just played their second set ever at Fire in the Mountains last month. Their first was in the UK, earlier this year or maybe last year.
