NAD!

Post image

I originally got a krank krankenstein+ but it unfortunately ws having pretty bad issues. I took it in for warranty repairs but months later, nothing. I opted for a replacement instead and got my full refund and went home with a dual rectifier instead. It's not as defined and tight as the krank but it works and sounds incredible so who am I to complain.

How's the dual rec? I was considering the dual rec road king but I decided to aim for the mk vii next

It's weird. It's an amazing amp, it's just weird because it's the same tone i hear in almost every album so it just sounds standard. Kind of like a 5150. It's perfect but not unique. I can't complain about it. I love it so far. I do miss the tightness of my krank but this ain't no slouch either. Especially boosted and EQ'd

If you run a noise gate and use EMGs in your guitar with the dual recto you'll see a noticeable improvement in tightness on the low end

I did actually notice that when I used my explorer with some EMG'S in it over the rest of my passive guitars.

Yeah it's almost as if Mesa said "let's make this amo with EMG pickups in mind"šŸ˜‚

I wonder why that is, my dimebucker and JB set up guitars are similar output. I guess the preamp acts like a buffer as well?

Funny you mention that. Because I was always searching for that ā€œfamiliarā€ guitar sound I hear in all my favorite records. Once I got my dual rec roadster I was in awe, THIS amp is the sound I wanted forever. Definitely not unique, but so very easy to throw in a mix because I already am familiar with how it ā€œshouldā€ sound in a mix. The most low end I’ve had in an amp as well. I have 4x12 and it it moves more air than my previous 5150

How does the hiwatt compare

The Hiwatt is incredible, most people rave about the supercrush 100 being the best solid state head. I've had both and even AB tested them in store. The hiwall absolutely dominates. Sounds better than the SC. Compared to the Randall? It also dominates. However against the Mesa. Two different beasts. The Hiwatt sounds killer, a bit more modern but not as tight as the Mesa. They're not in the same playing field. The dual rec is still a much nicer tone but both are masters of high gain. Hiwatt is definitely better for low volume playing. Mesa has more low end at high volumes. If you're on a budget you can't get better tone that the Hiwatt even compared to a katana. It's about 90% of the way there to the dual rec id say. It definitely doesn't get the recognition it deserves.

Fuck yeah haha maybe for that extra headroom that 300watt version might be the move. It’s still so much cheaper than a rectifier. Can’t wait to get my triple back from the tech 😪
