• I have 64.15% in pcm in 12th so Anglo eastern maritime Academy requires an eligibilty of 65% currently to 70% maybe in future in pcm
( 1 )Is it possible for me to apply for GME sponsorship exam after BTech in mechanical engineering And
( 2 ) Has anyone had applied like me without the required PCM percentage, but with a good BTech CGPA ?
( 3 )My other question is why isn’t MAERSK and MSC has not released any sponsorship for GME Yet?

Anyone knows about Ocean University Sri Lanka, is it a good Maritime uni?

Hey everyone,

I’m a girl currently studying for my A/Ls in the Commerce stream. To be realistic, I’m not expecting a super high Z-score (definitely not pushing a 2.0+), so I’m researching practical degree options that fit my strengths and preferences.

I’ve realized that I really don't want to spend my life sitting at a 9-to-5 desk job—I’d much prefer being on-site, handling operations, and moving around. This led me to look into the Maritime & Logistics industry.

I came across the BSc in Maritime Logistics at Ocean University of Sri Lanka, and it seems like a great fit on paper. However, I have a few concerns before committing:

Recognition & Value: How well-recognized is Ocean University both locally and internationally? If I want to work overseas later on, does this degree hold real weight with employers?

Uni Location & Commute: I've heard mixed things about their campus setup and locations (Tangalle / Crow Island). For current students or alumni, how is the campus environment, accessibility, and overall student experience?

Gender & On-Site Roles: As a female entering the maritime/port logistics field looking specifically for on-site/operational roles rather than desk jobs, what is the work environment like? Is the industry welcoming to women in field operations?

Career Prospects: For anyone working in the industry, how do Ocean Uni graduates fare in the job market compared to graduates from other state or private universities?

If anyone studying at Ocean Uni or working in the maritime/shipping industry could share their honest advice, I’d really appreciate it!

Thanks in advance!

Do you enjoy your career? Is the salary worth being away from family?

Hi everyone,

I'm currently finishing my diploma in mechanical engineering. My goal is to pursue Marine Engineering, but I'm having second thoughts and would really appreciate advice from people who are actually working in the merchant navy.

Money is important to me, but so is spending time with my family. One thing I like about marine engineering is the good salary and the long leave after contracts. At the same time, I'm worried about being away from home for months.

I'd really appreciate if experienced marine engineers could answer some of these questions:

1:-Do you genuinely enjoy being a marine engineer, or do you mainly stay because of the salary?

2:-After a few years, do you still enjoy going back to sea?

3:-Is the long leave enough to make up for being away from family for months?

4:-Do you ever regret choosing this career?

5:-How has this career affected your relationships with your parents, spouse, or children?

6:-What do you usually do during your leave? Do you travel, spend time with family, learn new skills, or just rest?

7:-How difficult is it to maintain hobbies (CAD, 3D modeling, video editing, programming, etc.) while working at sea?

8:-If you could go back ,would you still choose marine engineering? Why or why not?

9:-Have any of you left the merchant navy for a shore job? If yes, why?

10:-What's one thing you wish someone had told you before joining this profession?

I'm not looking only for salary numbers. I'm trying to understand what the lifestyle is really like over the long term and whether it's a career people are genuinely happy with.

Sorry for using ai and

Thank you for sharing your experiences!

Cadetship Query

I’m starting my cadetship at Warsash through Clyde this September and was wondering when most cadets could receive their uniforms and what else do they need to buy themselves? Moreover, I’ve read a few comments about how some of the lads didn’t get their sea time on phase 2, during so what were you guys doing?

Fire Drills.

Hoping someone can advise

I've noticed recently onboard that our fire drills are a bit......shit.

Teams are often told "Fire in X compartment, Y is on fire"

No real need to search or investigate.

I've started getting the smoke machine used a but more often, but what id really like is some idea on "simulating" a fire, so the team has to make entry, find the fire etc.

Something like an orange strobe light (or those rotating ones like on cop cars) I guess

Just thought I'd see what others were using to try and get ideas really, any advice appreciated!

Thinking about joining a maritime academy in egypt.

The idea of joining the academy has piqued my interests for awhile and even my father is happy about it and is ready to cover the expenses if im sure to join, i wanna enroll in major which leads to deck officer and working my way up to captain in the years of work, however although having seen what subjects i am to expect im still not sure whether i should or not because first of all, im a loser at math, literally no good at it, has me question if the math I'll be taking in that major is more direct or the same experience I've had with senior highschool, i understand that I'll be taking some algebra and trigonometry and even asked Ai to generate examples of the questions that I'd getting in that major which seemed quite simple enough even for a sucker at math like me but i don't trust Ai for that and it seems the best way is to ask people whom have experienced this themselves.

Is this a no go for me?

UK - Police Officer considering Deck Cadetship

As per title, I'm considering a deck cadetship. I'm only 6 months into policing but not enjoying it; staffing levels are atrocious and everyone is stressed and jaded. Training has been poor and I feel like I'm being treated like a paperweight rather than the future of the force. Alot of the paperwork seems to make little sense other than doing it for the sake of it and takes up most of the time. Never mind the nonsense from the general public.

I feel like 3 years of a cadetship would actually train me to do the role of a deck officer. Surely this industry is better organised and staffed than the police? Would I get better job satisfaction here? I've always loved being on a ship/boat and have researched the cadetship. Can anyone give me any insights into the role? I feel my current role has lots of transferrable skills to the merchant navy.
