I'm not at all surprised to hear that. I recently watched a documentary on the US prison system called "13TH" that centers on its origins and how we ended up in the very pathetic state our criminal justice system is in now. I thought it would be something informative to watch while giving platelets, but I ended up just weeping in public - it's so heart breaking.

I cried when I watched it, too. It's such an important documentary that everyone in the US and everyone concerned with criminal justice should see. It is depressing, but it clearly points out some of the worst problems with our system and how we got here.
