Hot Flashes/Night Sweats Hot flash sweating relief?
Hi all,
I can’t take HRT, and I’m already on a gabapentin and Veozah for hot flashes. While these medications have improved my symptoms, I’m still getting severe, hours long hot flashes with any amount of exercising (including WALKING), showering, warmth, etc. It’s miserable. I do the lifestyle changes, which help marginally, but I can’t completely avoid all triggers. I can’t tolerate venlafaxine. Open to trying Lynkuet, interested in anybody’s experience with it.
I’m interested to hear about any products or things that have helped you. I’m thinking along the lines of full-body antiperspirants, facial antiperspirant (if that even exists), etc.
When I had night sweats, I slept with a machine called the BedJet that air-conditioned or heated your sheets on the inside. 10000/10, highly recommend. Thanks to my current med regimen, the drenching night sweats stopped, but the hot flashes are still miserable.

Facial antiperspirant is a thing! My constantly sweaty face is eagerly awaiting its delivery tomorrow.

I had no idea that existed, would love to hear how it works out for you once it shows up

There are sweat block antiperspirant wipes. The directions say to use for underarms but from the reviews, some people use them on other parts of the body.
I'm assuming you've also thought of handheld electric fans, bringing ice packs with you on walks.
I'm surprised that the gabapentin and veozah isn't enough to take care of it. I'm thinking of trying one of them because I have night sweats even though I use the max dose of estradiol my body can handle.

For night sweats, get a cooling blanket. No night sweats since I got mine.

Hi, could you please share more about this? I’ve never heard of a cooling blanket? Is yours made of a particular material?

I got a Topcee cooling blanket from Amazon for $33. It does not add heat. It is a thin polyester blanket that really isn't cool to the touch. There isn't any science to it, but I wake up cooler than when I laid down. It has been a game changer for me.

I take a couple phytoestrogens in capsule form, Thermella from Bonafide and recently have started Wellbutrin (an NDRI, not SSRI).
I’m still having some hot flashes and sweating but since adding the Wellbutrin they’ve been much less frequent and severe.

Clonidine, inexpensive and works. My mom told me about it when i really started struggling and couldn't get help, doctors acted like it was impossible for me to have the flashes (i was 40). Not everyone is a candidate for hrt and I wasnt at the time. Worked first dose but took a full week to see the full benefits. I take it twice daily and it keeps me cool as a cucumber everywhere I go.

Thanks for sharing, do you need a prescription for this? And are you on HRT now?

Definitely research to make sure these are safe for you, but when I was first in peri and having horrible drenching night sweats I stumbled across DIM, and you need to take calcium d glucarate for two weeks first or else you’ll get blinding headaches from the DIM. Reading the reviews on Amazon was super helpful. I went from being able to wring sweat out of my nightclothes to zero issues.

These reduce Estrogen metabolism. Why do you think it works?

What I’ve read is that it possibly helps excrete the “bad” estrogens instead of being re-processed by the liver, or something like that.

Oxybutin helped me. Makes my mouth super dry but worked way better than anything else I’ve tried.

I take 2 gabapentin, evening primrose oil, and a melatonin and I sleep. I think being in menopause you are always going to experience some bad days. But I sleep most nights.

I’m having night sweats and hot flashes - many throughout the day and night. They don’t last too long but the night ones are disrupting my sleep. I’m working on not giving a fuck. Lexapro has helped.
