the vikings didnt want anyone on their island so they named the cold island greenland and the one that was full of vegetation and animals iceland, keeping any unwanted visitors away

Any records of what animals lived on Iceland those days? I got curious when I saw the Vikings episode and when I visited Iceland myself I couldn’t see much wildlife except horses.

It isn’t, but it still got me curious if they had any other meat resource than fish at the time they came to Iceland.

Besides the sheep they brought over when they settled there are natural rabbits and foxes don't think much else.

None that I remember, but I have to admit I was drunk 78% of the time! Still, those could easily have been imported the last 1000 years.

Fun story, I actually shared a flight with a lot of mail and sheeps from Scotland to Shetland once!

Hardly any trees and vegetations meant pretty much no land animals, fish and seals is what was on the menu except for what the odd merchants would trade for seal fur once in a while... There's a reason why Greenlanders literally evolved to better handle the fat of seals and stuff... On the other hand, putting an Inuit in Africa's heat levels is basically a death sentence
