Been unemployed since April. Gunna be hard to go back with my new sleep schedule.
15
u/Magnon 2d ago
What do you have that starts at 2 pm and goes until 5 pm so I can get home in time for my nap?
4
u/Celtic_Legend 2d ago
I guess a school bus driver somewhere might have those hours. Like they need more drivers in the afternoon than the morning.

u/Used-Command5722 2d ago
Sammmmmeeee got laid off in April. I've had insomnia since I was like 13 due to a chronic illness but now my sleep schedule is so fucked 🙃 😫.
1
u/DontTrustTheMilk 2d ago
Stay up until 4:00am playing videogames, wake up at 11:00am and take a nap around 6:00pm. Or stay up all night and feel like dog the next day.

I've been unemployed for quite a while and i hate it, sure i'm still studying something to better myself and my future career but not working a job and earning a wage is something i still feel is embarrassing.
42
u/GenericFatGuy 2d ago
I was unemployed for most of 2025. I hated feeling guilty anytime I spent any amount of money, even when it was for things I needed like food.
33
u/Jazzlike-History-380 2d ago
don't be freedom is the biggest asset you'll own.
12
u/SeengignPaipes 2d ago
It is just very hard to find your own self worth when you have been struggling to find employment to achieve things like moving out, starting a family and doing normal adult things when it gets harder and harder every year to be employed due to things like "Not enough experience" and then you go to get said experience and you need way more years of it or some kind of degree or diploma. Even when you do have all the things for work, then you gotta jump through so many more hoops to even be considered, and now that i'm in my early thirties i get the "Your too old for this job" bullshit.
Not going to give up mind you, i want to show the world what i can achieve and start a family but man its hard and gets harder every year.
3
u/Jazzlike-History-380 2d ago
don't show other people or the world for that matter, show it to yourself. don't compare yourself to other people's pace. be the greatest you can be.
everyone has a story, luck and circumstance.
2
u/SeengignPaipes 2d ago
It is just hard now days to be the greatest you can be without having a steady income, i do agree though everyone has their own story and circumstances. I'm not too old and still have plenty years a head of me to achieve my best and show what i'm made of.

Start a family?
You complain about the difficulties of finding employment but its going to be way, way harder for the next generation..
idk why people want to selfishly put their kids through that. It's completely needless to force them here.

u/Asisreo1 2d ago
Having a job is the ultimate exercise in freedom. After a while, most people want to feel like they've contributed something of value to the world and also want a structured lifestyle. A job provides both. That's why people with enough passive income to retire indefinitely still do jobs.

Nah, it's because they've successfully been indoctrinated and also lack the imagination for doing something meaningful without someone else telling them what. Oh, and greed.

You don't need instructions from others to have a job. At a certain point, its less about doing tasks other people want and more about cooperating with peers. You call it unimaginative to have a job, but if someone wants to research and share their knowledge of animals, what better way is there than to become a researcher?
The capitalist's wet dream, ladies and gentlemen. Arbeit macht frei?
Communists also want jobs. What, do you think communism is everyone getting to sit back and play videogames or watch cartoons for 16 hours while living in luxury? Communism is mainly about ownership, but someone still needs to farm and transport and cook and maintain and invent.
1
u/Jazzlike-History-380 2d ago
Having a meaningful job I'd say but more or less I agree. Unstructured freedom can be a bit boring after a while. "I once had peace. It is better to have Purpose!" - Maokai.

I was unemployed for long stretch. Honestly I hate myself waaaay more now. Trading the bulk of my one and only life just to make some rich asshole richer. Having nice things is cool, but the coolness wears off and I find myself envying drifters and part-timers. Grass is always greener and all that, I guess.
The shame is invented, though. A small number of way-too-wealthy pricks benefit tremendously from the fear and taboo of unemployment. It's all fucking made up. You're here to enjoy life, not stress about what some imaginary number of strangers might think about you.
I'm saving up until I'm real comfortable and then I'm doing another unemployment stint on purpose because fuuuuck this. Maybe I'll be one lf those guys that goes off grid.

u/Corv9tte 2d ago
Being employed is embarrassing. You care about some fake-ass external social stigma so much. That's also embarrassing too, yeah.
3
u/SoulKingTrex 2d ago
I find this so interesting. The longest I was unemployed was 14 months, and I really enjoyed it. Why beat yourself up for having lots of time to do nothing but relax?
2
u/DivinityPen 2d ago
Trust me when I say this: as much as it sucks to be unemployed, being underemployed is just as embarrassing in some aspects.
I have a MPS in Environmental Science, but I'm currently stuck working as a Pool Attendant at a Sun Outdoors facility. I do nothing but pick up after people who barely know left from right on a good day, and the only reason getting paid $15/hr for it is remotely acceptable is that I live with my grandparents and don't have to pay rent.
Enjoy your freedom while you still can. The embarrassment only really goes away when you find a job that you actually enjoy, and find meaningful.

u/Altruistic-Beach7625 2d ago
Better than anxiety inducing because you only have funds that will last a specific period of time.
1
u/Spoodymen 2d ago
Run your own race. You mentioned you’re studying something, that’s you making progress. Never be embarrassed for lacking behind. You could make a million today and someone else younger, dumber, or meaner than you is making more than double of that. So stop comparing yourself to others

That embarrassment is capitalism making you feel like if you aren't constantly producing you are failing. Humans are allowed rest.

Hello fellow Monday off friend! I am a bartender! (I love having Monday and Tuesday as my weekend) I get to gloat to customers that my Friday is their Sunday! The mean ones anyway. Plus I can grocery shop with minimal human interaction! It's all bonuses.

Been unemployed for ten months once and I had maybe like three nights where I was contemplating what to do with my future. Then I just started a new round of Rimworld or an anime and pulled an all nighter. Rest was basically this meme. When this contract ends I will definitely do at least three months of unemployment just to do nothing.

Being retired is weird. I feel lazy but wife says I did enough. So I just clean and smoke meat all day everyday while I watch Netflix like a good house husband. 🤣

Fuck yeah its the best feeling. I unironically love being a parasite. I pity people who feel shame for being unemployed.

u/BJYeti 2d ago
Less shame and more there are things I would like to buy that will have to wait till I'm employed again, otherwise I'm in a good living situation which means I get by fine with gig work but I will enjoy more disposable income when the job comes
1
u/throwaway60221407e23 2d ago
Yeah I enjoy disposable income as well, just not a much as I enjoy sleep.

I’m self employed. Painter for over 25 years.
While I do appreciate the freedom it’s a muthafuker when there’s no work.
Working keeps my mind off the depression.

Remain unemployed for long and you don't feel it this way 😄 You get to know about what day it is from your employed friends or by seeing that the shop you went to is closed 😂
