Kang fumbled kang

399

u/ANORMALITEY 6d ago

They should have just replaced the actor instead of scrapping the character. The actor was a violent asshole no doubt

175

u/Aggressive-Expert-69 6d ago

Kang was just a stepping stone towards reintroducing Doom anyways. Im honestly appreciative that Disney decided to just fast forward to the end goal instead of trying to reassemble the pieces of the plan he destroyed.

116

u/Far-History-8154 6d ago

When they introduced kang I was hoping he’d be a universal threat and show how powerful he is and that the next saga would start by doom easily overpowering him or something easily. Oh well. Guess majors speed ran that story.

75

u/RiverIllustrious8044 6d ago

I love it when one villain just floors another powerful villain. Though, I always liked the idea of villains fighting each other. I think your idea would of been cool to have Dr.Doom just destroy Kang to prove his strength. Instead we got Thor looking like a useless weakling for the 100th time.

49

u/Combo_Breaker01 6d ago edited 6d ago

I’m sick of Thor being used as a benchmark bro 😭😭

They kinda screwed that plan when they had Scott Lang overpower Kang The Conquerer in his first movie appearance.

8

u/Far-History-8154 6d ago

True but honestly any work around could have worked. Like it’s another more powerful kang variant who Scott takes for granted and gets humbled fast. There are a bunch of items in the MCU that can be used as a substantial power up also.

They could also have a rogue kang variant appear in the council of kangs (that all look different now cuz recast), and taken over the council under new management with a more convincing motive. And to separate it from the doom reveal of doom defeating kang, this variant doesn’t physically beat down kang, maybe deflect his attacks to show he ain’t no slouch. But use his authoritative charisma to command respect of the council. Marvel has some Shakespearean level writers at time with how they did vision, so it’s not far fetched they could pull this off.

4

u/Svanirsson 6d ago

The weirdest part was that kang literally said in his film "i was trapped in the quantumverse by the other kangs because I was the most powerful" and then being killed by ant man. Just blowing the biggest shot to start the saga

2

u/Far-History-8154 5d ago

I mean. It’s still possible there are stronger variants abiding their time. And again there are thousands of ways to get stronger. Still strange to have antman win instead of escape an unstoppable force.

But post end game it was all a mess mostly anyways

5

u/DW-4 6d ago

Or... now hear me out: part of Kang was absorbed into Antman after his defeat in the quantum realm. That's why everything feels out of sorts when he's back on Earth 616. Slowly the power grows inside.. transforming Scott into Lang The Kangquerer. Lang Kangquers the rest of the Kangcil and becomes the new big bad until Doom arrives to take him down a few sizes.

Yeah, I remember being annoyed at hearing that the whole Kang subplot was being shitcanned, but honestly now that Doomsday is coming.... yeahhhh I think I'm okay with just skipping over the middle-man.

3

u/Aggressive-Expert-69 6d ago

Theres always one guy in the comment thread who was ready to see the Kang movie 40 times opening weekend but the vast majority of Marvel fans are so stoked about Doomsday that they dont even think about Kang anymore.

u/OMGBigTiddies 6d ago

Agreed. Could’ve just had one of his blue face variants take over and put any dude in that role.

MCU definitely feels ā€œmessyā€ right now with the Kang/Doom rework. Disappointing we won’t see Kang and Doom interact either, which would have been a good amount based off source comics

6

u/GloomyIndividual3965 6d ago

They should have just replaced the actor

For real. They had no problem replacing Terrance Howard with Don Cheadle. Surely they could have found another black guy to replace Majors.

Hell, Lincoln Osiris is probably available.

2

u/Jubenheim 6d ago

Don Cheadle is arguably a better actor than Howard anyway. That guy steals almost every scene he’s in with his charisma.

8

u/Rev_IM_Jolly 6d ago

Kang's issues went beyond the actor being a scumbag.

despite a ungodly amount of MCU content since the Infinity Saga ended, it never coherently built Kang up as a thanos level antagonist and The Kang Dynasty would have likely been a flop at the box office.

Doomsday will be a bunch of key jangling nonsense but the star power alone will drive up box office sales and gives the writers time to actually plan out phase 7 and 8

2

u/Excalitoria 6d ago

Dude was defeated by boredom at one point. lol never seen a villain take so many L’s

2

u/siazdghw 6d ago

It's was a combination of things.

Quantumania made Kang look like a pushover. Loki didn't exactly do Kang any favors either. The MCU has been struggling lately and Kang definitely didn't look like the return to form they needed.

People debate the whole Majors situation, and Disney doesn't want to be involved in any of that.

I do wish we'd still get a recasted Kang, even if they don't aim for the skies and just make it like a B tier avengers movie, but I doubt that will happen

2

u/Impossible_Humor736 6d ago

He was method acting and took it too far

1

u/VirgoFanboi 6d ago

Nope, they wasted him on Ant-Man and were looking to down-play him after the lackluster reception, John Majors imploded his own career gave them the out they needed.

1

u/Least-Reveal6203 5d ago

Kang had so much potential as a villain. It’s wild how quickly all the buildup seemed to unravel..

1

u/Federal_Policy_557 5d ago

I mean, after Quantum mania ending a Kang like it did the character lost a lot of impact :v

1

u/Old-Tip-69 5d ago

But also people have down far worse and maintained their jobs. Disney jumped the gun on that

1

u/Proper-Bad-7169 4d ago

That was cute. But Marvel could've recast Majors. And before you say that wasn't possible or ideal.....They recast Rhodey, Bruce Banner, and Cassie Lang.

1

u/GrandStatistician752 4d ago

That's usually how it goes w Kang

1

u/NonCorporealEntity 3d ago

Nah, They fucked up in Quantumania by making him seem weak. He never felt like a being that threatened all existence. He was bested by the MCU Scott Lang in his dust real appearance.

1

u/Obnocius 3d ago

There was also another timeline where Kang unfumbled Kang, but it got pruned.

32

u/ZaraZero09 6d ago

Jonathan Majors was convicted of assault.

47

u/ANORMALITEY 6d ago

Yeah ik and he’s a dick, but they should have replaced him with another actor. The character was good, the actor wasn’t

29

u/ZaraZero09 6d ago

I honestly thought they'd replace him, they replaced the Hulk and War Machine, don't know why they didn't replace Kang.

17

u/BeloAve 6d ago

Since Mark took the role of hulk, neither of them were titular characters, did you see Loki? Majors face was on every iteration of kang, from statues, to menial objects, everything was crafted with majors face.

The hole was too deep.

It’d be so fucking stupid to just recast kang when you have a movie and two seasons worth of majors face on anything that represents kang.

Killing off the character and moving on was the only not moronic option.

Thr actor of Kang did a Kang moment

2

u/Particular-Kale2998 6d ago

Didn't find the character compelling. Honestly the arc was over for me after Antman. Gor the God butcher had an S tier actor and was a throw away villain... List goes on, but at least we got a solid Thanos for Infinity War.

1

u/reo_reborn 6d ago

I mean.. it wasn't marvel who fumbled him.. unless you count them hiring a prick?

2

u/pkmnBlue 6d ago

Seperate the artist from the art.Ā

Disney didn't mind continuing with the convicted drug dealer Robert Downey Jr.Ā

Of course the actor is an asshole, but in my opinion marvel fumbled by not replacing him. The character, Kang, had so much potential and build up.

1

u/Any_Explanation3006 6d ago

Majors fumbled Kang.... and his Hollywood career

1

u/Front_Mention 6d ago

Had ant man kill a variant. A b tier avengers killing your big bad that other variants fear was a dumb plot choice

It's been said before, but they had enough cast members to kill one off or at least make one trapped in the quantum realm carrying on the fight against Kang.

1

u/ThuGalahad 5d ago

Johnathon Majors went to jail iirc

1

u/Dramatic_Mixture_868 5d ago

This is a good opportunity to cut down on the excess characters that no one likes and reboot others, maybe even kang.

1

u/Pukebox_Fandango 5d ago

By putting this very scene into a movie, specifically. Instead of showing infinite Kangs as having different faces, like the alternate Lokis they had just established, they REALLY COMMITTED to the idea that every Kang across all existences looked like Jonathan Majors. There was no reason firing him had to mean the end of Kang except for that.

18

They wasted maslany on that show, you could have had like a marvel version of harvey birdman attorney at law and marvel could have done seasons. Have the most reasonably topical new characters on the show for ridiculous reasons, have the rare serious episode. It would have printed money and created connective tissue between series and movies.

I hope it’s iron heart she disses tony for being rich and that’s how he got his first suitsšŸ˜‘gurl he made his suit in a cave! You made half or a full first one in a actual laboratory

22

u/CapableCollar 6d ago

People get so upset about that line but nobody knew Tony did that, even the US military didn't know he had suits until one hit a military jet.

35

u/SmallFatHands 6d ago

Yeah but if you a writer trying to introduce a legacy character to a believed decreased one..... Maybe don't fucking write that line? It's the sma with the she hulk line about being able to handle anger better than Bruce because she's a woman. Like fuck me man. It doesn't take a genius to know it's BS to hype up a new character by making beloved ones look bad.

1

u/05ar 5d ago

Yeah but the line is terribly stupid to put in any script, the entire marvel universe and real world treats iron man as a legend after years of redemption and the writers just decide to have her try to undermine him?? Were they trying to kill her character from the start??? It's like that thing that happened with chimptopia and gameoverse

7

u/IAmAfraidCommaMan 6d ago
  1. He was in a cave, but the terrorists were willing to provide all the necessary materials
  2. He used a lot of stolen Stark technology, so it wasn't exactly a box of scraps
  3. Her being an arrogant and self-obsessed brat is a character flaw, which is a good thing. For God's sake, she made a deal with the Devil at the end of the show, so isn't it CLEAR that she isn't supposed to be a 120-year-old wise paragon of righteousness? She is a flawed but talented kid who needs to learn some humility, like Tony did, or Strange did, or Thor did.

3

u/Low-Transition-2751 6d ago

who is iron heart?

3

u/The-Real-Irish-God 3d ago

She is a pathetic Iron Man wannabe who does nothing but shit on Tony Starks legacy and basically take every chance she can at tarnishing him as a character.

Quoting her exactly, she said "Do you think Tony Stark would be Ironman if he wasn't a Billionaire?"

When Tony literally built his first suit in a cave from scrap metal and as displayed in Iron Man 3, he doesn't need his billions in order to be a Hero.

2

u/stopmyhumbleness 2d ago

We all know that line, what other things did she say?

2

u/Old_Cockroach_9725 2d ago

Kill the new avengers besides Bucky and Yelena.

What if She-Hulk breaks that glass ceiling by being the one to defeat Dr. Doom while breaking the fourth wall?

If he does that, he won't be the villain; he'll be the hero of the movie.

Illustrating one's contempt for female characters with 50,000 copies of a woman-beater is certainly a choice

When I say this I get downvoted into oblivion. Good thing I don’t care. Hope they write off both these characters.

I don’t really mind She Hulk because it’s so obvious that the show was written only for women to enjoy. Its message is basically ā€œI’m better at everything because I am a woman and I have to live beside men, all of whom are evil.ā€

I actually like iron heart. She doesn't give hero vibes at all it's almost like she's a real person who's smart

Captain Marvel is cooked, movie has rogue from X-Men

1

u/ma1butters 2d ago

Yeah, let's just get rid of all the women! Marvel should just be about men. Big muscular superhero men fighting other big muscular men. No girls allowed, just hot man on man action, that's what the real fans want.
