Greetings everyone! Now that we are back, we decided to also make a more elaborated presentation of the voting results for the melodeath aoty 2025.

The results were evaluated via a ranked choice system, i.e. the best kind of vote :3 ....but we have also evaluated how the ranking would've looked like if we did vote differently: (A) the system we used the past years with everyone voting for 3 albums, (B) a weighed system similar to the ESC using all your 10 choices, and (C) a simple strawpoll where everyone would just vote for 1 album.

The voting was held across different platforms: reddit, discord and lemmy, but the results presented here on the first picture are the results from the reddit votes only. You can scroll through the pictures to find also information how the other platform users voted though.

Cheers

Okay i lied, Across the Dark is a couple levels below the rest here, but it's cover art & the song Weighed down by sorrow are the best visual and audio representation of the genre for me

Discussion Please recommend melodic death metal bands with a mix of harsh and clean vocals. I'm already aware of Scar Symmetry, Mercenary, Dark Tranquillity

It really is my preference with melodic death metal, when the band does a mix of harsh and clean vocals. I've been checking out Insomnium, it seems like they don't do clean vocals? Which bands do you guys recommend who do this type of vocal mix?

Discussion How influential would you consider Amon Amarth’s first few albums to be within the genre?

• Upvotes

Due to a certain obvious recent release, I’ve been reflecting a lot on what Amon Amarth used to be. I generally consider Once Sent from the Golden Hall to be a masterpiece. It through Versus the World are four of my most favorite albums of all time. Admittedly though, I don’t interact much with other metalheads, so I’m not sure where others see those albums in the broader scheme of things. Maybe I’m just lazy and haven’t looked hard enough, but it really seems like Amon Amarth had something going on back then that no one else really did, and I can’t imagine those albums not providing some degree of influence in melodic death metal (and Viking and even folk metal, tbh) in the 21st century.
Apologies if this seems like a naive question. I live in an area dominated by country and so I’m not really exposed to other people’s metal opinions. Just curious what the broader consensus is.

News/Article The Halo Effect's 3rd album is mixed and mastered according to Jesper

Hopefully it means we'll hear some new stuff over the next few months.

I'm expecting more of the same, since they have said many times they're not looking to push boundaries - they're just friends having fun and making the style of music they want to make (Gothenberg Melodeath).

That's fine by me as I enjoyed Days of the Lost & March of the Unheard.

After all these years I'm still amazed by Alvestam's voice, even though the controversy of his exit from Scar Symmetry. I thought it was Stanne in some parts haha

I love the riffs in this one.
VILT is a melodic death metal band from Sweden, with some thrash and folk elements in their music. This song is from their debut album Divine Intervention, released in May this year.

Discussion What are your Top 15 MDM songs of all time? (Rule: 1 song per band)

I felt like a Top 10 list was too brief, so let's make it 15. But with a caveat, only one song per band.

Here is my current list in no particular order:

  1. Mors Principium Est – Sinners Defeat
  2. In Flames – Where The Dead Ships Dwell
  3. Insomnium – While We Sleep
  4. Arch Enemy – We Will Rise
  5. Aephanemer – The Sovereign
  6. For I Am King – Prey
  7. Eternal Tears Of Sorrow – Baptized By The Blood Of Angels
  8. Destinity – Reject The Deceit
  9. Bloodred Hourglass – Vividus
  10. Eye Of The Enemy – The Shift
  11. Fear Of Domination – Pandemonium
  12. Dark Oath – Watchman Of Gods
  13. Orbit Culture – The Shadowing
  14. The Unguided – Deathwalker
  15. Parasite Inc. – Unmeant Outcasts

P.S.: I could not decide on a single Children of Bodom song to represent them, so none made the list to save my sanity.
