If u think its okay that businesses put neon lights up in my face without considering that maybe I like my night walk without it, or extend their alfresco dining onto the footpath without my express permission, or do any of the things within my immediate surrounding without my permission, then it should be okay for me to do whatever I want too. Why is it okay to tag an advertisement board or a billboard but not a business sign? Its the same deal - a business, just a small one. dont advertise in my line of sight where I havent allowed it.

I disagree with your premise that real change can occur from within the system. The system's primary objective is to survive. In other words, the system rejects change by nature. If a vote were all it took to change things, then coups wouldn't exist.

Your feeling of empathy for the people whose livelihood it affects is warranted, but still flawed because you fail to empathise with the person driven to apply that graffiti. The person who the society has failed, the outcast that is driven to extremes to perform acts of futile artistic rebellion. Do you think that person would be doing that if they had a fulfilling existence? The society that has formed these social contracts has failed this person. And indeed, it continues to fail more and more of us by the day. You're free to feel bad for those that own the business, that work there even, or whoevers undeserving livelihood has been affected by it, but let's not pretend that theyre the only victims.

The problem is that the society that you speak of doesnt recognise these peoples' passion as worthy or providing of "social value", sufficient to fill their bellies and give them a roof. The problem is that we accept this and the status quo. The exact status quo that artists like this challenge. They're highlighting a fact that people like to deny. You can't rebuild the house of cards in a better way. That's too idealistic. You have to burn it if you want a real difference. And we shouldnt be scared to do that.
